Melissa Harris-Perry 'highly unlikely' to return to MSNBC

"Melissa Harris-Perry" the TV show ended not with a celebration or a cancellation, but with a tug of war over Beyoncé.

It was Super Bowl Sunday. The previous afternoon, Beyoncé surprised her fans by releasing a politically charged new song, "Formation."

Conversations about race, gender and politics are a cornerstone of Harris-Perry's acclaimed talk show. But executives at MSNBC wanted her to just cover presidential politics that day — no time for "Formation."

"Her executive producer had to fight for it," according to a source who recounted the skirmish.

10. Awful comparison

You're comparing barbaric slaughter to a normal boss. It's like being a janitor, and your boss tells you to clean the woman's bathroom now, because there's a mother's conference going on (female ratio today is 9 to 1 woman), and then you decide to clean the lunchroom, despite it being 2:00.

Yes, you do do what you're told when you have a boss, unless it's something extraordinarily bad or illegal.

Comparing Bathroom and Lunchroom cleaning time slots vs. creating and hosting two national shows with thousands of viewers who expect quality work don't much compare either - in my mind. I think Melissa rocks, and I am proud for her having the courage to stand up and bear the consequences.

MSNBC intends to part ways with host Melissa Harris-Perry after she complained about preemptions of her weekend program and implied that there was a racial aspect to the cable-news network’s treatment, insiders at MSNBC said.

Harris-Perry refused to appear on her program Saturday morning, telling her co-workers in an email that she felt “worthless” to the NBC-owned network. “I will not be used as a tool for their purposes,” wrote Harris-Perry, who is African American. “I am not a token, mammy or little brown bobble head. I am not owned by [NBC executives] or MSNBC. I love our show. I want it back.”

as a professor at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem NC where I live. She happens to live in walking distance from my house, and I noticed her house lit up and populated this weekend. I am assuming she is well, and I do not worry about her. She has everything going for her, including a lot of courage, and probably a clear conscience and enhanced self esteem.

I know she's a professor, and she's probably well set up financially by now. I just hope the people who worked for her don't suffer because of a kerfuffle over Beyonce.
