... Researchers and doctors from the assessment of chemical exposure team from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services are expected to come to Michigan this week to help assess what might be making so many residents break out in itchy rashes.
The ACE team will join the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which together launched an investigation into the Flint rashes about three weeks ago. Many residents continue to complain about itchy patches even now that the city is back to using water drawn from Lake Huron.
Both professionally and personally, I know the concerns about rashes have been quite consistent in many areas of the community, said Dr. Eden Wells, chief medical executive of the Michigan DHHS. And as we have gone through with our first several weeks of the rash investigation, we have found two things: One is that many of these folks had not yet sought care from their pediatrician or primary doctor yet. So we didnt have a lot of medical data we could look at. And the second was that the concerns were remarkably consistent across different areas of the city.
For me, I dont believe in coincidences ... At some point you can say if the current water testing, even if its only been in a half dozen homes, hasnt found anything yet, OK, lets bring in absolutely everything we can to make sure we dont leave any stone unturned to find out what is causing this aggravation for so many different people of so many different ages ... If we can bring full forces to bear from CDC and the Department of Health and Human Services we might find some answers. Id love to have an answer right now ...
