Snyder aide warned of Flint public relations crisis

A year before he was named Gov. Rick Snyder’s new communications director, Ari Adler warned of a public relations crisis with Flint water, saying in an e-mail it was “waiting to explode nationally.”

Adler, who was appointed to his new position Thursday, sent the e-mail on Jan. 23, 2015, to then communications director Jarrod Agen — now Snyder’s chief of staff — with a Free Press article titled “Who wants to drink Flint’s water?”

The article focused on Flint’s poor water quality and the impacts it was having on residents, businesses and animals and showed a picture of some of the discolored water that had been flowing from people’s faucets.

“This is a public relations crisis — because of a real or perceived problem is irrelevant — waiting to explode nationally,” said Adler’s e-mail, one of thousands the governor’s office released Friday ...
