New York Students Fabricated Hate Crime, Police Say

Three black students at the State University of New York at Albany who had claimed to be victims of a hate crime are now accused of fabricating the attack after a police investigation.

The women have been charged with assault and falsely reporting an incident after they said they were attacked by a group of white men and women shouting racial slurs on a bus in the early morning of Jan. 30, the Washington Post reported Friday.

The incident led to a rally on campus in support of black students and a statement from the university president expressing concern and anger about the reported attack, CNN reported.

Police now say the three women assaulted another passenger and were not subjected to racial epithets.

Do you not think that people who falsely claim crimes should be prosecuted? NaturalHigh Feb 2016 #7

usually get as much, if not more, attention than the real ones. There seem to have been a bunch of fake incidents in the news this year and rumors and hoax pictures are much more easily spread with social media as well.

Similar to fake reports of rape. Rapes are horrifically common, but they seldom make the news. But in the very rare instance that someone is revealed to have made a false accusation, that story gets headlines nationwide.

And the fake rape stories that get headlines usually get these headlines before the rape is revealed to be fake. First everybody starts screaming for supposed rapists heads. Then its realized the story is fake.

Like women who cry "rape" and are later shown to be making it up.

I'll tell you how this works in case anyone had any doubts. It gives prejudiced white folks cover to disbelieve actual cases of racial hate and discrimination. I know cause I've witnessed it many, many times.

Same with many men when they hear as yet unconfirmed cases of of actual rape. "Oh, there they go again those women, always it's rape when it's probably buyer's remorse, or my boyfriend found out I'm cheating", etc.

I've been made an ass of too many times trying to defend the victim's here to the point that I'm hesitant to point out that these people deserve the benefit of the doubt.

I really shouldn't let it but it tends to shut me up until more evidence emerges. By then, of course, it's usually too late and we're onto something else.

Like I said, sad...

my first thought is always "Duke Lacrosse." I remember the rants of people ready to hang the accused in that case before Crystal Mangum's story was exposed as being bullshit.
