Federal judge being considered for US Supreme Court nomination: Law Journal

WASHINGTON

Ketanji Brown Jackson, a federal trial judge in Washington, is being considered to fill the vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court, the National Law Journal reported on Friday, citing a lawyer who was contacted as part of the vetting process.

The unidentified lawyer was contacted this week and was asked about Jackson's tenure on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in the context of her being a potential nominee for the Supreme Court, the Journal said.

The lawyer described the conversation, which lasted less than 30 minutes, as a "preliminary inquiry," the Journal reported.

The White House did not respond immediately to a request for comment on the Journal story.

"If nominated and confirmed Jackson, 45, would be the first African-American woman on the Supreme Court."

Her nomination for District Judge for the US, was reported to the full Senate of the Senate Judiciary Committee and was confirmed in 2013.

Whoever is selected will have to at least try to play the confirmation game of trying to meet the Senators. If you're from out if state, then that's a lot of time wasted on the futile effort.

In DC already? No problem when/if a Senator blows you off - you just stay at work and keep on keeping on while the Senator looks shitty

Other than gun rights and free speech rights for the rich, I think that the Conservative Court has been really bad for individual liberty of regular people.

I think somebody with her background might be more sympathetic to police brutality and privacy issues than some of the others.
