It has been a record year for legislative lunacy here in the Spud State. Here is today's issue:BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) A state lawmaker is in hot water for comments he made about rape and pregnancy rates.
The House State Affairs committee was discussing a bill that would require abortion providers to tell clients where they can get an ultrasound when Rep. Pete Nielsen from Mountain Home stated:
"I'm under the understanding that in many cases of rape, it does not involve any pregnancy because of the trauma of the situation ... that may be true with incest a little bit," Nielsen said.
A spokesman for Planned Parenthood says the comments were "bizarre and troubling" and statements like that are harmful for victims of sexual assaults.

Yes, this is the same state where a lawmaker questioned last year whether swallowing a small camera might be useful in gynecological exams.

(14,255 posts)1. The late awful Jesse Helms said that a woman could only get pregnant if she had an orgasm,
so if a woman got pregnant from rape, it wasn't rape because she obviously enjoyed it.

(65,616 posts)3. So this guy wants to rape someone?
I fail to understand the logic of these troglodytes, so that is all I can come up with - they want to go out and rape someone and not feel guilty about it.

This morning, Akin told the anchor of the Jaco Report that, from what he "understands from doctors" (which doctors, he does not say), that assuming we are talking about "cases of legitimate rape" the "female body has a way of shutting that down" (i.e. preventing pregnancy).
