Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval (R) is being vetted by the White House for a possible nomination to the Supreme Court, the Washington Post reports.
Sandoval is increasingly viewed by some key Democrats as perhaps the only nominee President Obama could select who would be able to break a Republican blockade in the Senate.
Jon Ralston: Sandoval is very well qualified former federal judge, attorney general, eminently capable. But can a pro-choice, tax-raising, Medicaid-expanding governor get through the U.S. Senate? Would be fun to see that spectacle, no?

(14,400 posts)who he's going to nominate. They'll look at hundreds of people and slowly winnow down the numbers. You're going to see some interesting names floating around in the next couple of weeks.
I can almost guarantee you that Obama won't be nominating a Republican as his last court pick though. It's an interesting way to try and box in the Senate early.

(3,261 posts)It creates a sharp contrast between Obama's willingness to look at a prospective SCOTUS justice based on qualifications and not party and the GOP's partisan obstructionism. Good move.

He says that if Obama selects Sandoval, the Repubs should confirm him. He's conservative enough for Medved...
.... therefore....
Medved also admitted that it looks like the Dems will win the White House and gain back control of the Senate.

(40,416 posts)But there is no need for Obama to nominate anybody who the GOP likes to SCOTUS.
What is Obama going to do? Surrender?
I don't think so.
This is just rubbish spin.
