Did you know that Donald Trump won around 40% of the Latino vote in Nevada with 1,300 votes, more than the two Hispanics on the ballot? Well a bunch of totally authentic Latino Twitter accounts want you to know that.
UPDATE: The tweets have all been deleted, but luckily screenshots are forever.

(15,438 posts)at least 40% of the Latino vote, and he'll only get Cubans (what? 10%?). I guess that's why you see that number, 40%, over and over again. It's the magic number for any Republican candidate to win the G.E.
And I doubt he'll even come close to that number.

Trump is going to be the Republican nominee.

(15,438 posts)Latinos need a reason to get out and vote. Trump possibly becoming the president will be a major reason since they hate him with a passion!
The GOP are terrified that Trump will be their nominee. They know that it will hurt them badly.

(39,313 posts)but even so he's better than Marco Rubio. However we don't know who he'd include in government, yesterday he was touting Jerry Falwell.
BlueCaliDem
(15,438 posts)The GOP old-timers want Rubio. They believe he can get the 40% Latinos that Trump can't. So be prepared for some serious vote-stealing come Super Tuesday.

(22,670 posts)Mimicking what has been said in the media already, the GOP caucus did not include a paper trail, because the ballots were not numbered nor accounted for.* He said they were photocopied pieces of paper. They gave you one as you walked in from the waiting line for precinct assignment and there was a stack you could take from as you entered your precinct room. WTF!!! He was thankful, because he had no interest in sticking around. They had an envelope at the exit where you could place your marked ballot or ballots if you wanted, he said. The only accounting they had to the system at all, was they had people sign in, within their precinct.
He said the old man assigned to do precinct lookup was asked to do that position, without knowledge or training, because he was the first person to show up.
Completely unorganized. He was very disappointed, but was pleased that a lot of people participated and that his guy won BIG!
Makes me wonder if the 75,216 number they reported was skewed. Why wouldn't it be!?

(9,350 posts)I think all caucuses should be replaced by primaries. Primaries may have their problems, but I think they are, in the end, much better than caucuses. In primaries a person goes into a booth, pushes a button/pulls a lever, and their vote is likely counted. Caucuses seem like they can be fun, but they also seem to have the chance of turning into chaos. Then there is the chance of having a vote turn on a coin toss. No vote should hinge on a coin toss. A coin toss is okay to determine who starts a fairly meaningless game, but it is not okay for determining the future of a country, especially a country with the currently largest economy and largest military, which includes nuclear weapons.

(9,350 posts)The media needs to point out that even though Donald Trump received 40% of the Hispanic vote, that percentage only equates to 1,300 votes. From what I can tell, the media, this morning, was making out like Trump winning 40% of the Hispanic vote was an extremely big deal. 40% is not that big of a deal when 40% equals only 1,300 votes.

(1,254 posts)Trump did not get 40% of Latino voters in Nevada. He got 40% of Hispanic REPUBLICANS which account for 9% of the Republican Caucus. So it was 40% of 9%. These tweets are DISTORTIONS to make us believe that Trump is making inroads with Latinos.

(9,350 posts)For me the problems is that the mainstream media is doing worse than those tweets. At least the tweets pointed out that Donald Trump only received about 1,300 votes. The mainstream media is not putting out the information you stated in your post, or the information that was mentioned in those tweets. They are saying Trump won 46% of the Republican Latino vote in Nevada.

(20,176 posts)What is surprising to me is that nobody has noticed until now. It's not uncommon for political candidates, cause based organizations and even fast-food companies to employ copy writers to write pre-packaged tweets distributed by their clients to followers and supporters to be posted and reposted to social media. (That's pretty much exactly how Twitter works for most things, minus the paid copywriting...someone posts something smart-->9,000,000 people hit repost and say the exact same smart thing they didn't actually think of.)
A amuse bouche of several from my Twitter feed this morning:
- 'Release the transcripts' is an ENTIRELY FABRICATED political hit and media are carrying water for Hillary's rivals. (This one is from a Democratic-leaning political commentary publication.)
- ICYMI: @Chevrolet is one of first brands to jump on @Facebook Reaction buttons http://bit.ly/21o3nmG (This one is a copy written post about, in a very meta sense, Chevrolet being one of the best early adopters of the use of the new Facebook "emotion" buttons for their use in combination with copy written posts in Chevy's new social media campaign.)
- Justice should not be reserved for those who can afford it, it's a basic human need: http://chn.ge/1hGBgon PLEASE SIGN share & RT (This one from The Petition Site)
- It's outrageous that students are being asked to pay interest rates higher than you would pay to buy a house. (This one from the Clinton primary campaign)
- It's time to ensure that every worker in this country has access to paid family leave, paid sick time and paid vacation leave. (This one's from the Sanders campaign.)
I know because I sometimes write them.
I'm hardly a defender of Trump, he called me out on Twitter yesterday because something I wrote for a social commentary site went viral in which I called him "a racist, fascist asshole" and said he had "coasted through life on his daddy's money and hubris."...but can we save the efforts to scandalize for actual scandals before we become the political "boy who cried 'wolf!'" and people tune out?
