Anybody? I'm not a doctor or I'd grab it.A £190,000 salary, three months of holiday and no night or weekend work for a job in an idyllic part of New Zealand's North Island might be expected to attract considerable interest from prospective employees.
But bemused GP Dr Alan Kenny says he has been struggling so much to fill the vacancy that he is even offering half of his medical practice in Tokoroa, Waikato, to the successful candidate.
The 61-year-old said his practice had "exploded" over the last year but that he had found it impossible to find anyone to help cover his expanding workload.

(12,673 posts)It's frontier living, but it still sounds like a good living with income to support living off the grid. If I had a medical degree and were 20 years younger, and I would have applied for that job in a shot, medical school loans be damned.
Where are the hardy young med school grads that want to make a start? Surely at that level of income, one can get a Dish system and a generator to supplement the lack of internet, phone, power, etc... and a good Land Rover or mule to get around on?

(90,061 posts)Sounds awesome. Six thousand patients might be a bit much, but one assumes they don't expect a lot of help, or they would not be out there.

(5,128 posts)We know someone who moved to New Zealand. He is an economics professor and a talented jazz prodigy. He had a position at a Dallas Univ and a band back in the days of protest. They had a signature song, F' Bush.

(29,503 posts)she came back to the US, which I found surprising, but she's minority, and I suspect she may have encountered some unpleasantness there related to that fact.

(111,327 posts)The area itself boasts lousy, rain forest type weather (sunshine is rare), and a population that is economically depressed with all the social and medical problems that go with it. Still, it looks like a great job for the right person. The rolling green hills are beautiful.
