Mom irked over schools treatment of confederate flag (NM)

Jessica Onsurez, Carlsbad Current-Argus
1:03 a.m. MST February 21, 2016

... Shelby Delozier spent Friday outside the high school campus flying the confederate flag. She said it "represents Christianity" ...

She said her protest had to do with the way administration at the ninth grade academy treated her son .. for displaying the confederate flag ...

Jesse Fuentes, director of secondary education at Carlsbad Municipal Schools, said ... "If you’re wearing something that someone feels is offensive to them it could be deemed as against the dress code policy" ...

during her day-long demonstration she was asked to remove herself from campus property and then told by the Carlsbad Police Department to relocate from 12th Street, two requests with which she complied ...

Yes, she's an asshole but she should be allowed her protest as long as it doesn't disrupt school. Hoppy Feb 2016 #2

Odd that I've never once seen it flown over a church. The Vatican has its own flag. They don't fly the confederate flag either. I though the confederate flag represented a political organization, not a religion. Clearly I've been misinformed.

The "confederate flag" she and her son adore is almost certainly the flag of Lee's Army of Northern Virginia

And it's unlikely that anything like that ever flew in New Mexico, since the secession of "confederate Arizona" and confederate efforts to seize the rest of New Mexico territory had all collapsed by mid-1862, with the withdrawal of the "confederate Arizona" government, first to Texas and later even further east

The CSA itself didn't incorporate the flag of the Army of Northern Virginia into the corner of its official flag until 1863

The ordinance secession for "confederate Arizona," passed at Mesilla (now in NM) on 16 March 1861, rather tellingly says "... we will not recognize the present Black Republican Administration, and .. we will resist any officers appointed to this Territory ..." --- and here "Black Republican" was exactly the appeal to racial prejudice that it seems to be

Her notion that the confederates are somehow the true Christians, of course, is the product of many years of evolving propaganda, stretching back to Southern efforts to find religious justifications of slavery and passing through the Civil Rights era, when rightwing reactionaries like Jerry Falwell sought to oppose integration by equating it with attacks on Christianity by "godless Communists"

It's a prior restraint situation.

“To some people it doesn’t mean a thing, it doesn’t bother them one way or another. To others it’s a concern,” Brown said in that statement. “The Confederate flag is a symbol of many things and not all of them are negative.”

See, that last part (to me) is just giving people an excuse to fly and hide behind this racist/treasonous piece of shit flag.

Apparently the site you provided that sells such doormats doesn't view it that way (although you probably did)
