because I feel pretty strongly that the system is rigged, whether via voting machines, stacked courts, the deluge of money from corporations into the system, media control, etc. Etc. ETC. And yet we continue to hope that the system will change itself from the inside out, top down, if we only do our part.
While I'm all for 'revolution' and really do like Bernie, I feel pretty confident that we'll see a billionaire president come November (and I include Hillary in that group due to her backers). Bernie, at least, has ignited a grassroots movement but does anyone really believe that the 1% would sit by and 'allow' him to rise? The perception of choice is the greatest illusion in this charade.
It seems terribly naive. Right now he's valued as someone who can collect the youth vote that will be handed off to Hillary at the end. And you can be sure that the media will always present this as a 'close' race to keep people engaged and hope alive.
Even if it looked like Bernie would become the Dem candidate, you can be sure that would be the signal for Bloomberg the billionaire to step into the race.
It's laughable....billionaires presented as 'outsiders'? Could one be more inside than that class?
Not trying to be a killjoy, or dampen people's heartfelt efforts for change, but how many times will we need to hit this wall before we take change fully into our own hands?
Go ahead...blast away lest anyone challenge the consensus reality.

(33,688 posts)I tend to see the Roddenberry scenario as highly likely.
Planetary catastrophe - climate change, asteroid strike, nuclear exchange, whatever - followed fifty years later by a renaissance that leaves religion and capitalism as chilling memories from the Stupid Era.

But I'm not giving up...

(33,224 posts)That Sanders would be a serious challenger to Clinton 4 months from the primary, I wouldn't have believed it.
So he lost Nevada by one or two delegates? Pfft.
I disagree, this is a great time to be alive.

I wouldn't post an OP like this one in GDP. The most despicable are out in force.
