Stewart took about a year. Colbert's early stuff on the Daily Show was spotty. Again, it took time for him to refine it, and then he got his own show.

Jon Stewart has been funny since his first show, which is the important thing for a comedy/satire show.

Trevor Noah is just not funny.

but comedy is not his bag.

Jon sucked in the beginning too. I know people on the show and they say the guy is funny as hell, and since these people are funny as hell, I trust they're telling me the truth. He just needs to find his rhythm. But right now you're correct, he's stiff.

BUT, honestly, the man who does fill Stewart's shoes is Larry Wilmore. He can mock with the best of them, but, he has a polite, almost genteel grace, kind of like his fellow magician turned host, Johnny Carson. I really would recommend the nightly show to those missing jon Stewart, different flavor, but very satisfying.

Hey skinner, any chance we could get larry's "keep it 100" button as a symbol along with the rest. I love my snoopy, but the keep it 100 button would be great!

His round tables don't do much for me, but his first segment is often great and what Daily Show should be.

I also don't care for the fish out of water aspect for the Daily Show.

I'm all for passing the torch and getting a little more youthful, but this show needs a little more heft than
Noah provides.

In fact, I watched every episode of the daily show -- ever. Two things attracted me to Jon Stewart: his passionate hopefulness for a better future and his willingness to call out Bull**** that he saw in the politlcal process and the media. Jon Stewart was earnest and cynically optimistic. No that is not a contradiction -- he was cynical in how he viewed individual actors or systems (Fox) but optimistic in achieving a better America. Most of all he was patriotic, and no doubt this contributed a great deal. That is a winning combination. It allowed me to view politics hopefully but be deeply suspicious of those involved.

Trevor Noah only followed through on one part: the cynicism. As such, he has lost me as a viewer. To what do I attribute this? Amongst many, the stand out is his status as a foreigner: the idea that our system is fucked so we might as well make fun of it while we head off the cliff. Simply put, he has no patriotism so his heart is not attached to the issues. It has turned the show from an enjoyable dissection of political/media issues to a depressing amalgam of dysfunction and the worst kind of political comedy.

He almost makes Maher tolerable. Almost. but not quite.

He's still trying to find his rhythm. He knows people are tuning in to get Jon Stewart II but he's also doing his own thing.

One piece of advice Trevor: get better fitting suits. He's got a tall upper body and the suits look like he's worn them since before his growth spurts.

He doesn't have the gravitas Stewart had, and it shows especially when he interviews guests. I can't seem him pulling off an interview with Musharraf or Obama the way Stewart did. He seems more interested in talking to young celebrities. Not that Jon didn't, but he had the range to talk about and to people at a different level than Noah; he just hasn't been able to pull it off yet.

As to Larry Wilmore, I thought it started off well with a variety of guests on his panel, some of whom were really great, like Robert Reich and Bill DeBlasio. Now it's just him and his writers, a couple of whom are incredibly annoying, just talking shit and making zero sense.

John Oliver was the real heir to TDS throne, and Samantha Bee's new show, although only two episodes in, is already a must-see. Both are funny, intelligent and are able to pull off comedic satire without being ridiculous.

Samantha Bee's new show is hilarious! I love her! Too bad she is hidden on TBS.

In the first two years or so that he ran the Daily Show.

After Carson retired, I was not that into Leno for a few years. I'd watch, but not all the time. Towards the end of Leno's tenure I'd watch quite often.

But, Just like Stewart and Leno, I'm giving Noah some time. The show is still funny, and they are playing with the format a bit. They need to find their groove. Leno was nothing like Carson who did it for 30 years, just like Noah who is nothing like Stewart who did the Daily Show for 16 years.

...to John Stewarts. Of course, that may have been intentional as to not rock the boat initially and the format doesn't appear to be his style. He has however, I noted started changing things up in a small way here and there. So in time, who knows.

I seldom get to watch anymore. Apparently Comedy Central has some doubts about him, too, because they pulled the next-evening reruns of both the Daily and Nightly Shows in favor of more Futurama.

Meanwhile, early reports are that Samantha Bee is kicking some serious butt over at TBS!

Stewart frequently had authors as his guests, and their books often sounded interesting enough to put on my library request list. Noah has only had a couple, and my list isn't getting any longer. Noah doesn't seem to have the political wonkiness that Steward did.

It's ok, but not as good as The Nightly Show. And it doesn't help that DirecTV's download stream doesn't agree with my DVR.

Then again, I'm not in that demographic so .... it's to be expected.

Edited to add: I realize that he is part of that demographic himself, somewhat, so I don't hold that against him. I know he will do well, it's just not a good fit for me.
