Poll Fails To Support McConnell’s Motivations For Blocking Supreme Court Nominees

Poll Fails To Support McConnell’s Motivations For Blocking Supreme Court Nominees

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R) doesn’t think President Obama should nominate a Supreme Court justice to fill Justice Antonin Scalia’s seat because he believes the American people “should have a voice.” Of course, voters weighed in by reelecting Obama in 2012. But according to new polling out today, they haven’t changed their mind.

A new poll from Rasmussen Reports, which is known to lean a bit conservative in its results, finds that voters would prefer Obama to fill the vacancy rather than waiting until after the next presidential election.

..........

The poll found that 51 percent of likely voters believe that Obama nominate Scalia’s successor, and 53 percent believe the Senate should not “reject or refuse to consider” the nomination. In fact, only 35 percent favor the kind of obstruction advocated by McConnell.

There are, unsurprisingly, partisan divides. Republican voters are more likely to oppose the president making a nomination (69 percent) and to favor the Senate blocking any nomination (55 percent). In contrast, 76 percent of Democrats — along with a majority of independents — support the president making a nomination.

Moments like this remind us why the Founding Fathers wanted to limit democracy.

5. Don't misunderestimate Dem Dems

Twenty-some percent of Dems may just be hopeful enough that a Dem president with a Dem Senate in early 2017 will be able to get through a brilliant 30-something liberal justice -- unlike the unlikely road BHO has to travel. His best hope would be to get a moderate-centrist-biz friendly nominee thru -- if anyone at ALL.

So maybe Dem Dems are doing the math and saying, having 9 months of mostly likely stalemate hearings anyway is better when we then can get the True Mr. or Mz. Live-for-a-100-Years Justice in February 2017.
Just a thought!
Keep the faith...

the Republicans could wait and maybe Bernie will get to appoint someone. Maybe they really should give Obama's nominee a hearing.

base to yell at their senators

and they are screaming fuck no don't let obama appoint anyone. and by continuing to ignore rw radio the left guarantees that any senator that thinks about cooperating will be tarred and feathered.

even worse, that whole rw radio enforcement tool depends on the support of 90 major universities!

Plain and simple, Senate gopers are once again threatening to not do their job in the hopes of some political gain. Gotta' give 'em credit though, they're a persistent bunch.
