Robert Bowers, a 50-year-old debt collector, conceded that Donald Trump may have gone overboard just a little bit when he attacked President George W. Bush, saying he lied about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and failed to stop the Sept. 11 attacks.
But that did not stop Bowers, of Fountain Inn, S.C., from putting on a cap with Trumps Make America Great Again slogan and walking through an icy cold parking lot so he could crowd into a raucous Trump rally Monday night.
Hes not a polished politician, Bowers said, neatly summing up both Trumps appeal and liability.
Early evidence suggests that Trump, as he has many times before, is maintaining his wide lead here despite criticism of his crude rhetoric, the latest example of which came in his attacks on Bush in Saturdays debate and ever since. Though South Carolina has long prided itself on Southern manners and propriety, it is changing rapidly as outsiders increasingly move here. And Trump Nation may be immune to, and in some cases, even more than forgiving of his brash behavior.

(13,685 posts)I don't get it. Was or was not bush the president on 9/11?
What's wrong with these people that they can't accept the elemental truths? Does the truth bore them?

(13,685 posts)But the point is I don't watch. But it's sure fun reading about their clowning around. Especially the words of the rabid one's complaining they haz a sad.

(53,235 posts)I think Trump might hack away at the other candidates in the next one. I'd only watch for Trump. The other candidates just say, "Garble, garble, garble," as far as I'm concerned.
Don't get me wrong. Trump is a racist blowhard not fit to be president. I realize that. But he does occasionally spout the truth, which is something you NEVER see from the GOP. That's what's so entertaining about him.

(13,685 posts)The best humor is that which contains an element of truth. The rest, afaict, are complete liars.
Rubio and Cruz do make me laugh. Well, not them so much as the words I've read wherein their lovers put lipstick on them.

(28,349 posts)It's like a Halloween haunted house, or an awesome, but scary rollercoaster ride.
I'm not sure what it is.
Cruz scares the hell outa me.
Dark money purchased Rubio does, too.
Bush & kasich make me nervous.
I don't want them anywhere near the White House. I don't trust them from stealing the election. OMG, they would doom America.
Trump, well, he's certainly entertaining & disturbing.
But I believe Hillary or Bernie can beat him far easier than the others. Rest assured a lot of dark money will be spent against the Democratic nominee.

(82,849 posts)Nice. Maybe it's been there all along, covered with a thin veneer of manners and propriety among the privileged?
I get that people are angry and upset, but the hand holding the cudgel that's been bludgeoning the middle class for the last 35 years looks an awful lot like the manicured digits of the short-fingered vulgarian.

(32,088 posts)I have lived here 30 years, and I can't tell you how many times I have seen the incivility appear the very milli-second they discover that this middle-aged white woman isn't a conservative. They assume that every white person is like them: republican, "Christian", and a crazy-ass, bigoted wingnut. Not everyone is like that, but it's generally the case more often than not.

WMD..I thought, ok, history is being made, he is still standing and their
constituents don't give a shit..amazing.
He has taken over, not sure they can stop him at all.

(58,785 posts)any time soon. To quote someone, GOP winners walk the presidential walk and talk like fourth graders. The Donald has the latter down superbly. He does fourth graders when the teacher's back is turned.

(30,099 posts)Cruz in that position of power would be more than this country could take,
and what he would do around the world freaks me out too.

(58,785 posts)an amoral opportunist. But Kaisich actually worries me more than Cruz because I think he could be more likely to be elected. He has the nation fooled into thinking he is a moderate. I suspect he's a much smarter and more experienced Scott Walker.
