if you think a man and woman being separate on a commercial non-holiday means anything. Scalia and Ginsberg always spend New Years Eve together. Does that mean something about their respective relationships?

I don't care if he spends Easter fucking rabbits, but the media is doing a remarkable job of not mentioning anyone else who was there. Obviously, the place was empty. It's as if he was the only guest. It is a curious lack of curiosity.

Edit to add... It is a "non-holiday" in the government sense. It is a commemoration of an Italian Catholic saint afaik.

OBAMA VISIT: President heads back to golf course for Valentine's Day (UPDATE)

For the third day in a row -- and the third Valentine's Day weekend in a row -- President Barack Obama headed out to play some golf in the Coachella Valley.

His destination Sunday, Feb. 14, was Porcupine Creek, a private 19-hole course on the estate of billionaire businessman Larry Ellison. Obama's golf foursome includes three high school friends he has made a tradition of meeting in Southern California: Greg Orme, Bobby Titcomb and Mike Ramos (not the same Mike Ramos who is district attorney of San Bernardino County).
Obama flew into the Palm Springs airport on Friday and got in some golf at Porcupine Creek that afternon. He is spending a few leisurely days in the desert before hosting a summit with leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations on Monday and Tuesday at The Annenberg Retreat at Sunnylands.

The president is staying at a private residence in the gated Thunderbird Heights community in Rancho Mirage. On Sunday, he started his morning with a workout at the Thunderbird Country Club gym, then his motorcade left for the golf course about 9:30 a.m. He spent a full day on the links, returning to Thunderbird about 6 p.m.

The OP is about an unidentified "friend". My comment was on this aspect of the media coverage in studiously avoiding any mention of who was there and what sort of trip was this.

Again, neither the president nor his wife happened to drop dead in the company of people who, for some reason, cannot be named.

As for who Scalia's friend is that was there with him on Valentine's weekend, since it wasn't his wife, I'd sure like to know.

It's extremely curious that whoever it is is only referred to as a "friend".

Something is up.

It'll come out and I'm betting it won't be that innocent.

Yes, I would like more news on who was there and why. Scalia did the bidding of the wealthiest businessmen in the country and there were some important cases coming up for the corrupt justice to decide.
I'm sure he was wined and dined at the finest table while plotting new ways to add misery to the lives of the working class. Haha hoho, let them eat cake! Not this time, Tony.

But, yes, where is the press? Who was there and why?

Because early stories mentioned around 1pm and later it changed to 8:30am.
then there's this from the LA Times

"Scalia had gone to his room Friday night and was found dead Saturday after he did not appear for breakfast, the Marshals Service said.

At about 2:45 p.m. Saturday, people at the ranch summoned a Catholic priest from Presidio, 30 miles away, to administer last rites to the justice, who was a Catholic. “It appeared as though he had passed away in his sleep," said Elizabeth O'Hara, a spokeswoman for the Diocese of El Paso."

Ranch Owner Recalls Finding Justice Antonin Scalia’s Body
By ALAN BLINDER and MANNY FERNANDEZFEB. 14, 2016

HOUSTON — When Justice Antonin Scalia did not respond to a knock at the door of his suite at the Cibolo Creek Ranch at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, John B. Poindexter, the property’s owner, was not alarmed.

Perhaps the 79-year-old justice was attending to Supreme Court business, Mr. Poindexter thought, or simply did not wish to be disturbed on his first morning at the remote ranch in West Texas. It was less than three hours later, when Mr. Poindexter tried again, that he found Justice Scalia’s body.

...

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/15/us/ranch-owner-recalls-finding-justice-antonin-scalias-body.html?_r=1

The next morning, Scalia did not show up for breakfast. Poindexter at first thought he might be sleeping late, but eventually he grew concerned. Late Saturday morning, he and one other person knocked on the door to Scalia’s room, an expansive suite called the “El Presidente.” When there was no answer, they went inside.

“Everything was in perfect order. He was in his pajamas, peacefully, in bed,” Poindexter said.

The death of Antonin Scalia: Chaos, confusion and conflicting reports
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/texas-tv-station-scalia-died-of-a-heart-attack/2016/02/14/938e2170-d332-11e5-9823-02b905009f99_story.html

A Snopes article concludes:

The initially confusing circumstances of Antonin Scalia's death were not at all suspicious. Poindexter was circumspect in securing the scene out of respect for Scalia, and reaching an official from a remote area in Texas on a Saturday was complicated. In compliance with local protocol, Scalia's death was declared by the first available judge via phone, and after Scalia was transported to a funeral home his family declined an autopsy. Cibolo Creek Ranch owner John Poindexter was indeed photographed with President Obama, but that occurred during a 2009 ceremony for veterans.

We were unable to find any other connection between Poindexter and President Obama, nor anything that made us suspect that Justice Antonin Scalia's death was anything but the peaceful, ordinary death of a man who was nearly 80 years old.

Meanwhile, a wall of silence went up Monday around Scalia’s final hours and the confusion after his death. Local officials in rural West Texas, where he died, spent hours trying to locate a justice of peace after his body was discovered. The justice who was eventually found, Presidio County Judge Cinderela Guevara, pronounced Scalia dead without seeing his body — which is permissible under Texas law — and declined to order an autopsy. A second justice has said that one should have been performed.

Scalia’s family opposed an autopsy, and Guevara said Sunday that she determined by telephone that Scalia died of natural causes because he was having “health issues.’’ She cited information from federal officials at the scene and a conversation she had with Scalia’s physician. She said she was awaiting a statement from the physician to complete the death certificate.
