Three hearts! Thank you all! Plus: John Lewis' "March"

I was late posting some gratitude for the two hearts I'd gotten, and then a message popped up about a third!

Thank you so much!

It's been a sweet Valentine's Day already, and this just adds a wee bit of frisson, eh?

And I've been wanting to mention, since before yesterday's Big Big News broke, that for anyone interested in a great, accessible narrative about John Lewis' heroics (never mind whether he and I are voting the same way in the primary or not), you might want to pick up a copy of March:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/March_(comics)

It's his "graphic memoir" -- which means, in this case, "comics-style," like a "graphic novel" -- about his life in the civil rights movement, and the tremendous price paid, by him, and so many others.

I had the pleasure of being able to review the first volume. Actually still need to read Book Two myself!

On edit: I was at Comic-Con last year, covering a particular panel, and Lewis' was holding forth on the panel ahead of us. When it let out, he lead everyone in the room on a "march" -- slow, somber, cadenced -- down the hallways of San Diego's Convention Center.

He walked right past me, stepping slowly, wearing a kind of 60's-era mac. It was, at once, both startling and moving, and full of swirling contexts.

And the book is also very moving stuff, as you might expect. And a great way visit, revisit, or pass along this critical part of American History.

Be well, all you brawling DUers! Quite a century continues to unfold before us...

I got to march with John Lewis once, too, when he led a voter suppression protest march in Columbus, Ohio in 2004. I was volunteering in the Kerry field office there so I had a Kerry placard, which Mr. Lewis signed. I still have the placard, but I wish now that I'd had the presence of mind to choose something smaller than 3' x 4'.
