Barack Obama on the Supreme Court.
I'm not one to start rumors but I heard someone say that Hillary told a friend that if the Republicans hold up the nomination, there is a good chance the Democrats will take back the Senate in November. In the meantime, if she is the next President, she will try to persuade Obama to take the job as the next Supreme Court Justice. Just the thought of Obama on the Supreme Court should be enough to stir them to action. Barack Obama could haunt the Republicans for the rest of his life.
But Obama has other thoughts. The Senate in now in recess and he is thinking of appointing someone with a recess appointment, which he has the authority to do. Democrats are guffawing behind closed doors about all their options.
But, like I say, that is only a rumor.

(17,064 posts)There are several cases coming up before the SC this session, abortion restricting decisions by the conservative 5th Court, that will be upheld if the SC votes 4-4 ties.
Once the SC is out of session the republicans can piss and squeal all they want.
If Dems recapture the Senate, it's because Sanders is at the top of the ticket and brings out many more voters. Clinton is not going to get the votes to win the GE, and we will lose additional Senate seats with her at the top of the ticket.

(17,064 posts)The court case affirms the President can make recess appointments, provided the recess is longer than 3 days. The Senate declared recess on Friday, until the 22nd. That's 10 days. Looks like Obama can make a recess appointment anytime before Feb 22nd.

(17,064 posts)Article in link cited in post I was responding to said Senate declared a recess Friday, lasting until the 22nd. If they were holding pro-forms sessions, no reason to declare recess. Plus, Senate can't hold sessions while recessed.

It's nice that it scares them, but it would be better if it actually happened!
