How about your neighboring state? Here's where to find out:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Senate_elections,_2016
There's a great chart on this page that shows, state-by-state, which seats will be decided. If you haven't already, take a look at it. If we can pick up 5 or 6 seats from Republicans, we get the majority of the Senate back.
That should be a major issue to deal with for the November election. Let's get started on working on seats that can be flipped. What do you say?

(15,429 posts)This should be a banner year for Democrats as many of these seats went Republican in the wave election of 2010 and are vulnerable to Democratic takeover.

(146,317 posts)If you do, then try to find someone to run, or toss your own hat in the ring. I can't help with Arkansas, I'm afraid.

(29,718 posts)It's run by "old timers" who hate 'outsiders" and do everything they can to chase them away. Sad state of affairs that turned our state blood red.

(13,190 posts)Since they have no chance why put up a candidate

(37,573 posts)Why should a candidate come from the DCCC instead of from people in Arkansas deciding on their own to step up and run?
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)to field candidates for office. The DNCC will help, but if there are no candidates...
I do not know the filing requirement in that state, but they exist. If nobody runs, then the Democrats in that state have given up. How would you help with that if you weren't there?

(13,190 posts)Running.against republicans cant raise the kind of money they need to mount a campaign
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)There is nobody to fund. Anyone can file. Why has nobody done so? Sorry, but that's the reality.

He's Conner Eldridge, a former U.S. Attorney in Arkansas.
According to the Senate roundup at electoral-vote.com, Boozman (GOP incumbent) has an approval rating of only 34%, so he could be vulnerable.

(1,052 posts)Is being challenged by an Independent who has cleverly endorsed Sanders. Some of our statewide races have been razor-thin Democratic victories, so any bleed-off to an Independent could be bad. I would love to vote for a Sanders-like Democrat for Senate, but not this time. We need both our D seats.

(11,473 posts)Will not help as i have read most of Seattle is for Bernie.
I lived in WA during last two elections for Obama, strong Obama people there but also strong liberals who want things done and don't like money in politics.
I like her but she better think twice about hitching her ride to Hillary.

She's endorsing, she's not telling me who to vote for.

(11,473 posts)Not up on local stuff yet. Is she the one to vote for? I heard if we get too many dems running with the top two candidate thing going we could lose both being in general.

(11,619 posts)California U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, 82, has sent the first signals that she intends to run for a fifth term invitations to a Washington, D.C., fundraiser for her 2018 campaign went out Thursday.
Feinstein has not announced her plans, but news of a fundraiser created a buzz in Californias Democratic establishment, which has been debating whether the former San Francisco mayor now the oldest member of the U.S. Senate will pursue a fifth term in the 2018 election, when she will be age 85.
The invite to join Sen. Feinstein for dinner on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Bistro Bis was issued by Linda Hall Daschle, the honorable Tom Daschle and Baker Donelson Berkowitz PAC for an event benefiting Feinstein for Senate 2018, according to a copy obtained by The Chronicle. Tom Daschle is a former U.S. senator from South Dakota.
The tickets to the event are $2,000 to host, and $1,000 for dinner guests. Please make contributions payable to Feinstein for Senate 2018, the invitation reads.

(7,820 posts)She's still incredibly popular. I suspect that seat's hers as long as she wants it.
My opinion- we could use someone more liberal.

(1,917 posts)I've heard that Nixon might challenge him, meh. At least it would be a Dem if he wins.
But, not for sure if Blunt will have an opponent. Claire is due next term, hope we can primary her, but the DNC has all but abandoned Missouri it seems.

(36,437 posts)He will almost certainly have to go along with any Obama nominee in order to avoid a landslide defeat. If he sides with the obstructionists, it's a guaranteed -1 for the GOP in the Senate. (It's probably a -1 anyway, but Kirk is pretty much electorally obligated to play the moderate and stand with the President on Supreme Court nominees).

(5,279 posts)50% Feingold vs 37%Johnson.
So both senators should be progressives in a year.
The one we need to oust is Ryan. This is doable if we can get turnout high enough. Our best bet is most probably a progressive African American candidate. He would be more representative of the majority of the population in district 1(Southern Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha). Good sized veteran population as well, no shortage of AA veterans.

(64,933 posts)As it stands now, there are two democrats in the primary for the chance to run in November. If the democratic nominee can carry Ohio, then we may pick up the senate seat, also.

(11,175 posts)Are you wishing for someone to her left, who would somehow make a race of it against the very popular Hassan?

(15,859 posts)*hint* the guy on the left won BIG. And that she's tied with Ayotte speaks volumes about her popularity. The Senate is the perfect place for. She can flip-flop all she wants once there. And hopefully we'll get a new Dem Governor who keeps his word.

(58,785 posts)win the Democratic primary? We're down in Florida now, and I really envy you voting in a pink state. But if I can find an organization that needs poll monitors in November, we'll have voted by mail and will come down.
Back home is so profoundly, uniformly conservative that it makes Florida look like a model of liberal enlightenment in comparison. We normally drive mostly elderly conservatives to the polls; but this time, if we're up there in November, I expect to pass on that and do some get-out-the-vote calls for Florida.

(2,434 posts)as one of the 10 Dems. He has no challenger yet as the repukes have about 10 vying for that nomination. March 1 will be big in that regard. None of the repukes looks strong at this time. Bennet's not my fave, but he's better than most repukes.

(17,064 posts)My current Congressman , David Jolly, is running on the Republican side. Ex-Republican Patrick Murphy (DWS's pet) and Rep Alan Grayson are running in the Dem primary.
To replace Jolly in my district, in the Dem primary are ex-Rrpublican Charlie Crist (another DWS pet), and his challanger is Eric Lyon.

this article is only 3 hours old, and is the most current analysis I've seen
best bets, maybe: Illinois, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, and Ohio, though nothing would make me happy to see McCain crawl off under the nearest saguaro and shrivel up. I still can't believe how he lied his ass off and skated away from the Keating 5
''Teddy at the Campaign Silo pointed out yesterday, citing a damning new article in The New Republic, that John McCain was almost certainly the source for a set of illegal leaks during the Keating Five investigation leaks that, if proven, would have been cause for his expulsion from the United States Senate for perjury, not to mention the underlying corruption and malfeasance from his relationship with Charlie Keating.''

see next post for more....this man has ZERO honor, how ironic that one with even less knocked him out of his best chance for the presidency in 2000
Gabi Hayes
(28,795 posts)Now the thing that most, if not all, have overlooked here is the timing of Charlie Keatings retort; it is not just that it was before McCain was sworn in as a United States Senator, it was right as Keating was pumping big money into McCains general election campaign for his first run at Barry Goldwaters old Senate seat.
..............
What kind of man was Charlie Keating buying? A man just like himself; a man who was all ambition and no conscience. A man completely self centered and who had no compunction bleeding senior citizens dry, bullying and berating adversaries and corrupting the process of government. A man like John McCain.
.........
But the most telling part about John McCain is not that he was centrally involved in the Keating Savings & Loan scandal, many politicians get involved in political corruption scandals. Four others, although to a far lesser extent, were indeed involved alongside McCain in the Keating scandal. As bad as that was, the worse, and telling part about John McCain, was the lying and backstabbing of his friends and associates for the sole reason of saving his own pitiful skin. John Sidney McCain did not hesitate for one split second to plant and twist the shiv in the back of everybody around him, from Charlie Keating himself to his fellow Senators.
can't recommend this page enough.
the comments are excellent, as well.
McCain, was nothing more than the typical hypocritical, lying, backstabbing, delusional swine that characterizes most of the Republican party as it's now constituted, with the possible caveat that he's even more insanely ambitious than the likes of Cruz, Rubio, or the res of the current rat pack.
