When the issue of Bush's brother came up, Marco Roboto said, "I thank God every day that George W Bush was president on 9/11 and not Al Gore"
I have always wished just the opposite.

(1,260 posts)I'm calling BULLSHIT on any Repuke that says they are happy that 9/11 happened on a Repuke President's watch. Nothing would have made them happier than seeing a security-related, national tragedy on a Dem President's watch.
I bet they are actively praying for another 9/11 before Obama leaves.
In fact, one clown told me that the only reason why a 9/11 event hasn't happened on Obama's watch is because Obama has "intimate ties" with the Islamic community.
Repukes are full of shit!
Kalidurga
(14,177 posts)so there is the proof right there they will blame anything on a Democratic President especially if his name is Obama. But, no doubt they would do it to any Democrat. And yes they are full of shit a whole lot of the time.

(4,447 posts)It would have been an uneventful day. Because Al Gore would have paid attention to the memos from the intelligence agencies and taken action to prevent 9/11.
It's all part of the Republican narrative that 9/11 was somehow unforeseeable.

(32,886 posts)He had led a commission on that very subject back in 1997-1998. So when warnings came across his desk that Al Qaeda was determined to strike in the US, one of the areas he would have concentrated on (since hijackings are traditionally a method terrorists use) would have been airline security. I like the odds he would have prevented it. I place them at around 70%.

(30,813 posts)That's really all we know for certain.
And that's a lot. How many people would still be alive today if not for that fateful Supreme Court decision?

(14,459 posts)It's quite likely nothing would have happened that day under a Gore Admin, and no PNAC invasion of the Middle East.
You're correct that's all we can be reasonable sure of- Gore was still establishment at the time, and becomes so anytime he gets too close to all of it.

(14,459 posts)I just did some reading on her and Sibel on the subject, and it confirmed what I had heard elsewhere- the agents that were running across the soon to be hijackers were finding links and getting nervous, but were getting blocked from getting warrants and authorization to investigate more.
I'm sure the Exec branch was totally unaware of this at the time...

(8,052 posts)even heard of it much less what know what it says. That situation is one of the biggest WTF's of my life. It is THE plan, in writing, of exactly what the neo-cons wanted to do. And the part about "an event equal or worse than Pearl Harbor" needing to happen to get U.S. citizens onboard to support a war in the Middle-East blows my mind. They got their event alright. This is why I'm in the LIHOP camp.

I dismissed the statement outright due to Mar-low's pattern of pandering. He was just trying to take advantage of the opening Chump gave him by pleading for a little military love from SC. And he'll probably get it Saturday. He's a shameless little shit.

lark
(23,105 posts)that he actually won. There would be no 9/11 at all as Saudi's wouldn't have been given carte blanche to come to the country even when on terrorists watch lists. Gore would have kept the OBL unit active, they'd have had a good opportunity to put the pieces together and stopped it. The Bush administration knew planes were an issue, that's why they stopped flying commercial that year, too dangerous. Yet, they did nothing to investigate this. I believe it's because BFEE knew this was going to happen and were happy because it'd give them a chance to control Iraq's oil and increase their war machine to their personal great profit.

(154,021 posts)but I suspect President Gore would have paid more attention to the warning of August 6 about bin Ladin determined to attack America, but maybe I am wrong, and that is wishful thinking.

(581 posts)But those voters who elect them refuse to know or learn the truth. Bush ignored the advanced warning about a 9/11. His administration did too. Just how did George Bush protect America, by ignoring the Constitution and our laws.

(9,350 posts)If Al Gore had been President in 2001 the 9/11 attacks most likely would not have happened. Most likely Gore would not have ignored the warning(s) about Bin Laden being determined to attack inside the United States.

The Clinton administration actually hunted down and captured terrorists instead of having large ground wars with innocent casualties. They did not want to start a major military action against bin laden right before changing administrations or appear to be helping Gore's campaign win through the uptick of support the incumbent gets during war.
