From what I understand Stalin died in a similar way.

Stalin gave strict orders to his guards not to disturb him for any reason before he went to bed. Then he had a stroke during the night, and apparently died sometime during the day while he was incapacitated by the stroke. The scared guards waited 24 hours before checking on him and finding him dead.

In Las Vegas, hiding the hookers is de rigeur (e.g. John Entwistle, when it was considered a courtesy not to mention the cocaine and multiple prostitutes).

they have experience with hiding the escorts at these sorts of places (luxury hunting lodge for rich men).

I would not, however, put it past Scalia to have gone 1500 miles for the sole intention of killing helpless woodland animals. Especially if one of the billionaires who employed him was footing the bill.

He didn't get up for breakfast. They didn't check on him and went on with their day. They checked on him in the afternoon and he was dead. US Marshals and FBI were on site.

It wasn't clear if he was found in his bed or elsewhere.

jumped up and did a very unseemly dance on hearing the news. Startled my husband. I've been wishing he'd drop dead for a long time, but I would have been just as satisfied with his resignation. Sounds like he had a long, enjoyable day hunting and partying with friends before going to sleep.

I wish they had ordered an inquest, though. As the right wing feels the loss of his vote on the Court, we can expect Scalia murder conspiracy theories to come to life.

Feb 2016

I am from a small town close to where Scalia died, although I moved away some time ago. However I still know many people from the area and I have family in many of the small towns especially Marfa, Alpine. I know the news is saying Scalia died in bed, but speaking to family from Marfa and who are familiar with and know people who work where Scalia was staying say he was not found in bed, but he was found on the floor (face down). My mom knows the funeral home director from Alpine and she said he said the same thing. As if he awoke knowing something was wrong got out of bed and dropped dead not long after.

to be believable. Also normal would be declaring he died in a reassuringly dignified way in bed.

Whatever. As soon as decisions start coming down the "wrong" way as a result of his death, angering people on the far right, they'll start believing he was murdered to destroy conservatism and call for investigations and indictments. Whether his death is carefully investigated or he is cremated without will make no difference; any result will only reinforce their conviction. As predictable as bread landing butter side down, that just seems to be the way most extremists react to bad news.

The elderly do have a tendency on average, of becoming defensive, rigid, self-centered and less compassionate. They also loose whatever inhibitions they might have previously had to saying inappropriate things.

I see it as a necessary survival adjustment for the possibility of losing independence and having to tolerate the vulnerability of being personally cared for.

Before you attack, disclaimer: this is a generalization and of course we all know those who grow older and wiser.
