California congressman vapes during Congressional hearing

http://www.sfgate.com/politics/article/California-congressman-vapes-during-hearing-6823871.php

A Transport Committee Congressional hearing was interrupted (enlivened? defiled?) on Thursday when a California congressman decided to make his point by vaping during the meeting.

Duncan Hunter (yes, that's really his name), a Republican from San Diego County, is already on the record as a staunch defender of vaping rights. He came out pro-vape when the FDA proposed new regulations on e-cigarettes in December.

Now, Mr. Hunter is displeased with the Transport Committee's proposed amendment that would ban vaping on planes. Because it's apparently his constitutional right to subject everyone in the skies to his e-cigarette smoke.

"There's nothing burning. There's nothing noxious about it whatsoever," he says at the hearing after blowing a cloud of smoke. "... This is the future."

Vaping? You've got to be shitting me!
Like his old buddy Randy "Duke" Cunningham he'll be indicted some day. A San Diego embarrassment.

“It is a common misunderstanding that the exhaled vapor is ‘just water vapor,’ ” Tobias wrote me in an e-mail. A recent study he conducted found that nicotine and propylene glycol — a compound used in fog machines — can be found in e-cigarette exhalations. He did not find formaldehyde, which is common in real cigarettes.

But Tobias pointed out that some people are sensitive to propylene glycol.

So, e-cigs are better than real cigs, but possibly not as good as no cigs at all. Or, as a study by the German Cancer Research Center concluded: “Adverse health effects for third parties exposed cannot be excluded because the use of electronic cigarettes leads to emission of fine and ultrafine inhalable liquid particles, nicotine and cancer-causing substances into indoor air.”

You may already recognize this chemical for its more everyday use — as the key component in newer automotive antifreeze.
However, propylene glycol is considerably safer (less toxic) than its far more dangerous cousin — ethylene glycol.
Yet because of its proven ability to cause a serious type of blood disease in some animals — Heinz body anemia — propylene glycol has been banned by the FDA for use in cat food.
But unfortunately, it can still be used to make dog food.

I don't expect others to be OK with a room full of my clouds so I only vape where it's OK to smoke cigs when I'm in public. People who insist on vaping wherever they want make everyone else more likely to approve of bans on vaping or heavy handed regulation of it.

I smoked for 34 years. Now I vape, but never in closed public spaces.

I use the Logic brand, and no nicotine.

How do they get it to look and feel like smoke? How does it just hang in the air like that?

Whether safe or not, it freaks people out, and they have a right to their sensitivities.

Oh, and have a heart, on me, for being considerate to others.
