GOP Idea For Domestic Policy Is To Have Churches & Charities Do It All.

Compassionate conservatism is really code for giving domestic programs to churches and charities and let them take care of it all. Whether it is health care, seniors programs, poverty programs, food programs et al is to have churches take the responsibility. Examine what they really believe closely and they see NO roll for government in domestic problems.

There's gradations of course; and most politicians at least won't admit they want to get rid of Social Security (instead they talk about making it more efficient or utilizing the power of the market or something like that).

of the John Birch Society's manifesto. Do recall this or similar statements coming form the GOP during the nineteen forties. Many of or similiar statements were espoused from many a Sunday Pulpit. And the Fundies wonder why Religion is in decline.

The churches and local charities cannot and do not want total responsibility. The GOP idea is to just give the money to churches to do with it what they will and trust the will take care of domestic ills. They see religion as and integral part of the state.
The idea is a pre 1900 policy where churches were expected to do it.

The result would be money for the pastors to build their little empires. And lest we forget they would om;u gove the money to approved CHRISTIAN churches.

Social Services pre 1900,and do believe the number was quite small. This crapola giving block grants to churches came in and about Nixon's time. Really amped up with Gingrich and his contract with America charade.

It's all about insuring Rethugs are the controlling Political Party.

... that when times are tough, the charities' donations dry up because.... wait for it.... times are tough.

To GOPers "charity" included tithing and giving money to the Rev. Billybob Slickhair. Only about 1/3rd of religious donations go to the poor.

See, for e.g., Poopy Bush's "A Thousand Points of Light" campaign. People never realized why there was such a push by Bush to get them to volunteer for charity work. Why pay them, when you can convince them that doing it for free is noble and good?
