Kanye West declares Bill Cosby innocent; Twitter backlash follows

Bill Cosby has a friend in Yeezus.

Few celebrities have embraced Cosby, 78, after 50 women came forward with allegations that the comedian had drugged and sexually assaulted them. But Kanye West proved to be an exception.

The rapper – who releases his new album "T.L.O.P. on Thursday – took to social media Tuesday to tell his 18.5 million Twitter followers "BILL COSBY INNOCENT !!!!!!!!!!"

Within hours, his post was retweeted 35,000 times and received more than 40,000 "likes."

stupid, heartless, or completely illogical?

And this is Kanye. He would say anything to keep all eyes on him.

At the risk of setting myself up for a flaming, I will admit right here and now that I sometimes wish all these charges were false.

Why? Do I really think so many women are against him for personal gain? Do I really think he is the target of some sort of conspiracy?

No. I simply loved Bill Cosby for the longest time. I grew up on The Cosby Show and Dr. Huxtable always seemed like someone we all should strive to emulate. I'm sure people older than me watched Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids on a regular basis.

He's a beloved entertainer, and the charges against him make him seem like a monster that is the complete opposite of the Bill Cosby we [thought we] know and love.

Ultimately, I want justice. If he's guilty, he needs to pay. Yet I will admit that I can understand why some some people are eager to continue to defend him, even as the list of accusers grows.
