IIRC (watching it on PBS), after she sang "O Patria Mia" for the last time, the standing ovation and applause did not abate for 20 minutes or so.

Legend.

One of Mississippi's greatest artists, and that includes some insanely good competition...

My fave is Le Nozze do Figaro, but it is really, really difficult to pick a favorite with Mozart. There's Don Giovanni, Die Zaberflöte, Cosí fan tutte, Die Entführung aus dem Serail, etc. too many to choose from. His short life was far too short.

Don't get me started about his piano and chamber works. OMFG!

My best to you.

This is the epitome of Mozart opera. His ensemble pieces were second to none. That is why Peter Shaffer was correct in his Amadeus script. The second act of Le Nozze is astounding. It builds to one the most remarkable ensemble pieces ever. As Shaffer puts into Mozart's mouth (paraphrasing): Six people all singing over one another and it all makes sense. Only opera can do that! Only music.

That always brings tears to my eyes. I have some passion for the subject. As you can probably tell.

My best to you.

Oopsie! Forgot the vid link.

That scene between Salieri and the priest ("That's charming! I'm sorry; I didn't know you wrote that." "I didn't. That was Mozart&quot is still one of my favorites in cinema.

That must have been at the White House, Jimmy and Rosalyn in the front row.

He and mom had season tickets (my sister got to see Joan Sutherland do the mad scene in Lucia - talk about jealous!!!). Now it's my best friend - he takes me to the opera several times a year. Nothing like an opera at the Met - the building itself is worth the ticket price.
