Christie heading back to New Jersey instead of South Carolina

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie decided not to drop out of the presidential race after a lackluster showing in the New Hampshire primary. But in his speech here in Nashua, he also announced that he's not going to South Carolina, as the campaign had said he would.

Instead, Christie said he and his wife, Mary Pat, are going back to New Jersey.

"Mary Pat and I spoke tonight and we've decided to go home to New Jersey tomorrow and we're going to take a deep breath and see what the results are tonight," Christie said. "By tomorrow morning or tomorrow afternoon we should know."

Christie added that after they know the results, "that should allow us to make a decision."

He has little to lose doing it and the way the moving target of popularity has moved... he seems as likely as anyone else to surge and get a chance to make a case. If he doesn't he can move out and start the VP bid.

he put a tremendous amount of effort into New Hampshire. He's had an organization in the state for nearly two years-all to manage a sixth place showing, defeating only Cruella DeVille and Dr. Demento. I have to admit a certain sense of satisfaction in seeing him go down in flames. He earned it. The next step is to see him held accountable for his misdeeds. Once he's out of the race he loses some of his teflon coating. It's time for Mr. Fishman to do his job.
