to both parties) is the way they will make promises to their followers about what they will do when they become president. They often promise to take certain actions without regard to the fact that there is a congress, which must also be part of the action. For instance, "I will lower this tax", or "I will fund this program"; as if they can do such things without approval from the House or Senate. I suppose this has always happened, but it just bothers me a little.

(1,644 posts)political candidates like to use martial language. "I am going to 'fight' for you. "I will 'battle' 'special interests' for you.", and so forth. As if they are actually in an arena, risking life and limb for us, their beloved constituents.
