Michigan Senate Passes Bill Outlawing Oral and Anal Sex-

Violators Will Face 15 Years in Prison

Lansing, MI — During their session last week, the Michigan Senate passed a bill that effectively bans all forms of sodomy, anal, oral, gay and non-gay — making the acts punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

Surprisingly, Michigan is not alone in this archaic and oppressive legislation. Michigan, along with Idaho, Utah, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana, all have laws on the books making consensual oral and anal sex, illegal, between all individuals. Montana, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, have only outlawed these acts if those engaged in them are gay.

The passage of this Bill is in spite of the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2003 ruling in Lawrence v. Texas declaring sodomy bans unconstitutional.

In an attempt to skirt the legal boundaries of the SCOTUS ruling, Michigan encompasses these so-called ‘sex crimes’ into the legislation on bestiality — as if the two are related in any way whatsoever.

“A person who commits the abominable and detestable crime against nature either with mankind or with any animal is guilty of a felony,” reads SB 219.

And, if the state catches you committing this ‘felony,’ you will face ‘not more than 15 years’ in prison.

Sex cops and/or cameras in the bedroom? How do the idiot legislators who pass these sort of draconian laws, expect or want them enforced? Shameful waste of state funds and time. Republicans are always screaming, "Smaller government!". Not. Keep a watch for some local Michigan republican/s sex scandals to surface soon. It's usually the biggest hypocrites that vote for this sort of shitty legislation.

The buffoons in Lansing all answer to someone higher up the food chain.

Which also explains how much greed they've managed to accomplish with term limits and all. For instance, they get to keep through their 401(k)s or whatever, their unused campaign chest.

About eight years back, a friend of mine's nephew was a GOP state congressman. His uncle asked him, "Too bad about term limits. What do you have to do with the contributions? Give them back?" He said his nephew turned to him and said, "No, Uncle. We keep it." My buddy said: "Isn't that against the law?" The "kid" said, "Uncle, we make the laws."

Har har. It is to laugh.

The laws against sex and nature are just sideshows to help avoid all the theft on behalf of the rich and powerful, in Michigan, particularly the DeVos and Koch interests.

Mon Feb 8, 2016, 09:13 PM

Or you get censored!

It resulted in a live performance of "The Vagina Monologues" on the steps of the state capital in Lansing.

Reported here: http://www.eclectablog.com/2012/06/the-vagina-monologues-at-the-michigan-state-capitol-in-lansing-michigan-june-18-2012.html

The crowd was not small:

Yesterday, Monday, June 18, 2012, upwards of 5,000 women and men and children descended on the state Capitol in Lansing, Michigan to reclaim that place of power for women and their vaginas. After being told that uttering the word “vagina” was dirty and “lacked decorum”, Representative Lisa Brown and her colleague Barb Byrum were censored and banned from speaking.

Eve Ensler, the creator of The Vagina Monologues, worked with Senator Rebekah Warren and others to stage a reading of the groundbreaking and magnificent play on the steps of the Capitol (You can read my interview with Eve Ensler HERE.) But, what transpired there was more than just a theatrical event. It was an empowering event and a tranformative event for the state of Michigan. The thousands that gathered shared their anger and disgust and their refusal to continue being treated like children or second class citizens.

I spoke with Lori Lamerand, Board Chair of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan. I told her how impressed I was that her group had gotten 400 people to the Capitol last Tuesday when there was a scheduled vote on the anti-woman, anti-choice omnibus package of bills. Describing the women, all dressed in pink, ringing the Capitol Rotunda and chanting, demanding to be heard and to be listened to, Lamerand said, “That day was the highlight of my career. It was so heartfelt and real.”

They did it again on Thursday, the day when the vote was rescheduled.

Here it is, Lisa Brown in the middle, one of the legislators censored for uttering the word "vagina" on the floor of the legislature. Here she is performing "The Vagina Monologues" on the steps of the state capital, the only appropriate response:

Fuck the Republicans in the Michigan legislature!

often, we only have the word of the involved parties to come to rational conclusions. It becomes a he said, she said contest.

The real problem is that in sex cases in general, accusations can often do as much damage as convictions. And, since retractions and apologies are often many weeks to months later and relegated to the back pages of the paper, mini blurbs on the TV machine, much damage can be done with these laws in place. Having the laws kind of legitimizes the accusations, with or without proof.
