Didn't know the Super Bowl was a big thing in Istanbul.

I wonder if Batman will take a few shots at ISIS in the movie?

(19,537 posts)There is a history of that town suing the film makers back in 2008 for the use of the word "Batman" that they claim they had rights to before those creating Batman did. I'm wondering if the film makers this time around made an effort at least through these ads, and perhaps even in part of the film(?) to mend fences here.

(1,683 posts)Seems to be a tradition that every player on the winning team touches the trophy on its way to the presentation. They used to do the presentation in the locker room.

(50,254 posts)It just seemed random that an airline for a country that is thousands of miles away from the U.S. would be running ads on American TV.
Pretty sure you can't fly Turkish from L.A. to Chicago.

(12,022 posts)I flew from Boston to Istanbul, direct. Kindest flight attendants with friendly service. Terrific food. A "chef" wearing a jaunty toque who circulates through the cabins, making sure everyone's meal is OK.
It's considered one of the favorite airlines in Europe.
Within Turkey, I've flown between cities and somehow Turkish Airlines manages to serve a full meal, even on an hour and a half flight.
(btw, it beats awful Alitalia by a mile.)

(14,732 posts)experience duplicates yours. New, clean colorful plane, well equipped even in Tourist class, GREAT food, excellent flight attendants who look after your every wish. The best airline I've flown in 50 years of flying internationally.

(63,912 posts)restaurants are. I've had a Turkish breakfast and it was superb!
Usually, I go for dinner. I so enjoy kebabs (and never get them) so we get a variety of apps. Their soups are fabulous also. It is a fine cuisine.

(146,317 posts)Only within Turkey, though. Pan Am to and from Istanbul from Los Angeles, and then Turkish Airlines to and from Samsun on the Black Sea. It was almost 50 years ago, though, I haven't been back to Turkey since 1968.

(19,537 posts)I guessed they missed me as a target customer though, since I didn't watch the super bowl yesterday. I guess I was a customer more recent than you having probably flown some in the early 70's. Though when we took a trip from there to Egypt as one of the first American tour groups to travel there then after Nasser, we had to take the Soviet Union's Aeroflot instead of either a Turkish airline or even any American air lines such as Pan Am, etc. then.
From the looks of this the ads in question were promoting the new Batman vs. Superman movie? It sounds like they were pushing that Turkish Airlines (Hava Yollari) were flying in to Gotham City and Metropolis.

I wonder if part of the movie takes place in Turkey then. Haven't studied it much yet. Coincidentally, there really is a town named "Batman" in Turkey as noted here. And there was even a lawsuit over the comic book character named "Batman" and this town's name. Hmm... Perhaps this issue was the source of the airline commercial being placed in the Super Bowl?
