https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/the-fallible-mind/201601/why-ted-cruz-s-facial-expression-makes-me-uneasyIts hard to look at Ted Cruzs face. Hes a brilliant orator with a sharp legal mind. But his expression unsettles me. I know my reaction is visceral and automatic, but as a neurologist it is my business to notice things out of the ordinary and probe them. The Senators atypical expressions leave me uneasy.
Before I say why, note how many colleagues and former associates "loathe" him. A Bush alumnus told the New York Times' Frank Bruni, Why do people take such an instant dislike to Ted Cruz? It just saves time. Former Senate Majority leader Bob Dole says, "Nobody likes him," while Rep. Peter King sees "malice." According to The Washington Post, screenwriter Craig Mazin, Cruz's former Princeton roommate, has called him a "huge asshole," and "creepy." He's Tweeted, "Getting emails blaming me for not smothering Ted Cruz in hissleep in 1988." The distaste for Cruz even extends beyond the US: Germans say Backpfeifengesicht, meaning a face in need of a good punch.
Humans learn to read faces from the day they are born. Infants readily respond to smiles. They imitate others facial expressions and gestures. During the first months of life, brain activity readings trace the development of their body maps. These brain maps allow an infant to recognized similarities between self and otherthe foundation on which all social cognition rests, especially trust.

(31,415 posts)"Inappropriate Expressions
One of the signs of a narcissist are inappropriate facial expressions. This is not just the common "phoney smile", but an odd array of disingenuous facial sets, mixed with bursts of their own true emotions, that are truly disturbing in what they reveal of their inner world. One of the things commonly reported by those who live with narcissists is, "the smirk". You are in emotional or physical pain, usually of the narcissists making and they are exuding a weird glee that shines through their eyes. Sometimes they compose their face in line with what the world has taught them to exhibit, then walk in the next room and bask in their joy in private. Other times if you accidentally injure their false self, you can be given "a looks could kill" glare, over something you thought was relatively innocuous."

It's as if the unspeakable thing inhabiting his skin sack hasn't quite mastered the ability to mimic human emotions...
Autistic kids have to be taught to smile. The expression doesn't come naturally to them, and more often, the expression is a teeth- baring approximation of a smile. But they understand that this expression is made when one is happy.
Cruz does not smile like that. He smiles like he has no idea WHY people smile, HOW they smile, or WHAT is intended by the expression. Its as unnatural on him as on a wolverine or a snapping turtle.
Or else he has a cactus lodged in his colon.
