It’s Stupid That My Actor Dad Is The One Who Has To Teach Us Not To Be Dumb

My father, actor Richard Dreyfuss, is taking heat for attending a Ted Cruz rally. I shouldn’t have to write this, but here goes: curiosity is not a sin.

My father went to a Ted Cruz rally. My father also won an oscar in the 70s and his name is Richard Dreyfuss. Those two things are only related because by virtue of being famous, my father’s attendance at a Cruz rally got written about by a couple of media outlets. Those write-ups were absorbed by a number of mouth-breathers, and so began The Dumb.

Let me clarify. When asked if his being there suggested he supported Cruz, he responded, “It suggests that I’m interested in what he has to say… It’s the politics of my country, so I’m interested.” This seems like a pretty clear answer to me. I don’t necessarily endorse these views, but I’m curious about them because they are poised to have a very big effect on me and my country.

But clarity be damned, the same day as those articles were published I started getting calls and complaints ..... .....

.... when some ideas are so prevalent that they hold huge sway over your own country, you’re an idiot if you decide to stuff your ears with your fingers and start humming. ......

1. Exactly. He should only be held accountable if he applauded.

2. I would not be concerned unless he donated to Cruz or get him an outright endorsement

Hell, If it were convenient I probably would go to a Cruz or Trump rally, again just out of curiosity. There is no way on god's green earth that I would vote for either of them, though.

It's a free country. I have little interest in the folks celebrities support.

If it was genuine curiosity then once he heard what Cruz had to say, which did he think?

Not that it matters anymore than what any of us think. But it would determine whether he is a right wing idiot or not.

Dumb dumb dumb dumb DUMB! But his daughter is trying to help him save face, I wonder if she realizes how stupid he looks by saying that. I guess the Dreyfuss house is sans information of any kind. They live in a log cabin in the woods.

11. Most people don't pay attention

Let's be honest; most folks really don't. Their lives often don't allow for it either.

I'm very aware and read a ton because I can factor it into my day. My significant other has no time for it. Up in the morning and off to work for the day. The evening is spent with her son's sports activities, a little time with me as I do some stuff in the evenings, and then off to sleep.

Thankfully, she doesn't listen to the radio news.

But there's no time in her day in general to really dig into it. And that's how it is for most people.

I haven't watched TV news in years and I certainly don't encourage it in others to find things out either.

Would it then be okay to personally attack him if he DID support Cruz?

Because millions of American voters probably actually do support Cruz and even more probably will if he wins the nomination.

I happened to read Senator Tammy Baldwin's FB page. She endorsed Hillary Clinton and her comment section was full of Sanders supporters, not just disagreeing with her, but attacking her.

Seems like the circle of hatred just keeps going. First, perhaps hatred for Trump supporters, then hatred for Trump and Cruz supporters, then hatred for Republican voters, and then hatred for Clinton supporters too.

I think hatred is worse than stupidity.

10. Some folks here attending Republican stump speeches and rallies get the same response

There was a lot of blowback from some when Brooklynite(sp?) mentioned he was heading to NH and had an array of rallies he was attending to see what they were like.

It's tribalism at its best; if you don't stick completely to yours, you're the enemy.
