absorbs sound and vibrations. Combined with the aesthetics does give a peaceful and relaxing feeling. Well, at least until you have to shovel the driveway.

So enjoy while you can.

there's no shoveling. There's snowblowing, or plowing. My current driveway is about the largest I'd want to snowblow (with my current snowblower). Anything longer, and I've had those, I'd need a plow. A short little 8-foot driveway my son could shovel would be great, but I haven't lived in anything like that for years.

For those curious, anything particularly short you could shovel. When you get into 50' driveways, you have to have a snowblower, but since I don't have a pickup, I'm limited to the largest blower I could fit into my van.

Anything beyond that, you have to pay for a plow (or own one yourself). Then you need them to break you out (get the bulk of the snow out of the way), clear and move the cars, and then wait for the final plow to clear the driveway.

I think (I'm terrible with distances) that my driveway is about 50 feet, about 10 to 15 feet across, and a separate parkout area good for a decent sized vehicle. I don't know how much square footage that is with 8 to 10 inches of snow, but you ain't doing it with a shovel, I can tell you that.

It used to be that kids would come and offer to shovel your driveway but that's so much in the past I think it's on retro TV.

My driveway is 200+ feet on a hill. Try shoveling that. We live in an area where we don't get a lot of snow, so buying a snow blower isn't prudent. Usually if it snows, it is only a dusting and melts by noon. Every 5 years or so we get a whopper and it doesn't melt for days. The last time it snowed our street wasn't plowed for 3 days, so shoveling the drive didn't seem urgent.

It sure is pretty to look at. Snowball fights with the kids are a blast. I grew up in the north so I know how to make a snowball and throw one. They were born here and had no clue. The fun part was explaining to the boys how to write their name in snow. They thanked me for giving them a short names.

I had to teach them. We live where we might get enough snow every 5-7 years to actually make a snowball.

I actually hand shoveled it out of a 21 inch and 30 inch storm. Told myself never again so now I use a snowblower.

Lost power from the storm yesterday in CT and had both snowblower and generator going.

Maybe if I was 20. There's no way in hell I'd shovel out 2 feet of snow from an 80 ft driveway. I'd pour gasoline on it and light it on fire first.

(just joking: DHS).

you have to keep them up, otherwise you do the birds a disservice. They land, expecting food, and might not find some. So I think you have a responsibility to keep them maintained on a regular basis. I can't promise that, so I don't, sadly.

I much prefer the heat. My idea of paradise is Vegas in August.

Last time I saw something like that on the ground here where I am at was January 11th, 1973! Must be something about the Gulf of Mexico that repels snow! Lol

However, this (now) Florida woman can't take the cold and hated it when I lived in RI for a year and had to walk/slip and slide on the icy sidewalks to get to the bus to get to school. Brrr. Going to Roger Main park was such a treat, it was worth be freezing cold for a bit, but couldn't handle it day to day so moved to CA to warm up and go to school there, then 18 years later, moved back to FL to help care for my aging parents.

If I could handle the cold I'd live in Iceland, they have the best government in the world and actually care for the people more than the bankers - what a difference!
