Sandra Bland's Mother Expands Lawsuit

Sandra Bland's mother, Geneva Reed-Veal, has added 10 Waller County officials in a federal lawsuit over her daughter's 2015 death in the Waller County Jail.

Reed-Veal originally sued the Texas Department of Public Safety trooper who arrested Bland, his agency, Waller County and two of its jailers. A preliminary hearing in the case is set for Feb. 18 in a Houston federal court.

Reed-Veal has said in court papers that Encinia denied Bland her constitutional rights during the arrest, falsified the assault allegation and lied about why he removed her from her vehicle.

She also alleges two screening officers at the Waller County Jail — along with 10 other jail officials including the sheriff — neglected Bland after her booking, failing to check on her or seek medical attention once she was found in her cell. Bland's mother also says the county is responsible for placing her in a cell alone and where a "large garbage can, garbage bags, exposed beams, cords and other items," were available to her daughter, after she had said she was once suicidal.

In the upcoming hearing, U.S. District Judge David Hittner will hear arguments over the state's request that the case be dismissed or put on hold while Encinia's criminal case plays out.

2. I was hoping there'd be something in the lawsuit about her being deprived

of her epilepsy meds, because one of the risks of going off it suddenly is an increased tendency for suicide. And she was off it for 3 days by the time she died.

I think it's unconscionable that a jail would take away someone's prescription meds and not have her immediately seen by a doctor to approve them.

Waller County officials on Tuesday released the full video of Sandra Bland's three days in jail before she was found hanging in her cell, and also confirmed that the 28-year-old was not receiving medication to treat her epilepsy despite mentioning the condition on an intake form.

The fact Bland was not receiving Keppra, or another epilepsy medication, while in jail could provide investigators and the public additional insight into her potential state of mind.
Keppra has some potentially serious side effects, including suicidal tendencies, behavioral abnormalities and psychotic symptoms, according to the Food and Drug Administration. Some of these effects also are listed as common withdrawal symptom

In spite of all the Waller county legal obfuscation, it was out and out murder of a young life just starting a new career in that, now, godforsaken hellhole for POC. This type of murder among many in the last 7+ years and Snyder's attempted genocide by lead poisoning in Flint, Michigan are all one in the same....white racist genocide in america. PERIOD.
