Most of the people who get it don't know they have it, the symptoms are generally very mild. More worrisome are dengue, chikungunya, and malaria. There's now a vaccine for dengue being distributed in Mexico but other countries seem to be waiting to see how effective it is there, first.

I can absolutely slather myself with DEET and mosquitoes still bite. No bugs except down by the river was one of the biggest things that attracted me to living in an arid climate. Next stop: Atacama.
