10.00 for 90 day supply in JUuly
160.00 for same today.
I did not buy it, it is not absolutely essential, but it is very helpful.
We have to do something about this price gouging.
That smug bastard Shkreli is only the tip of the iceberg.

(16,286 posts)It wouldnt matter if Hillary does or doesnt want single payer, or if Bernie cant make the numbers work.
If you demand something, and you make it plain you will get it or else, then shit happens.
The or else would be a general strike, maybe, not sure.
The only reason there is even a DEBATE in our politics about single payer is we allow it.
There should be NO debate. And to Social Security, not lifting the cap TOMORROW is irresponsible and absurd.
Pharmaceutical companies will rob you if they are allowed to, it is that simple

(67,109 posts)As Bernie says, we need a revolution. Problem is, too many are too brainwashed to comprehend what Bernie is saying. I told someone in despair the other day they should look at what Bernie says, their reply, oh, I could never vote for him, he's a damn socialist. Many people in the US are so fucken STUPID, willfully ignorant and more ...

(67,109 posts)The pharmacy had no explanation, but it was now $60. They are going to investigate what is going on. You know, I am getting really F'en fed up with the United States and the endless ripoffs.

(60,010 posts)Besides the fact I am looking at out of country options...
Family member who worked at Pet stores for some time clued me in that anti-biotics can be bought with no script for cheap
and indeed that has worked. I like to keep some on hand since it always seems we need one on a weekend.
I have a filled script for Meloxicam, an arthiritis NSAID, which I did not get much use from. 10.00 for 90 days.
Have 3 refills on that.
Turns out, our aged dog can use it ( at half dose) for his painful hips.
As opposed to the 2.00 each pills the vet is quite happy to sell me.
so, win some.lose some.

(35 posts)I know a lot of people here won't like to here a recommendation for shopping at Walmart, but the fact is Walmart has great prices on diabetic test strips.
Test strips can be expensive. My health plan only covers 1 strip a day. So it can be very easy for somebody to use up more strips than their plan covers. Many of the brand name strips sell for about $60 for 100 strips. My guess is that your friend who paid 60 for strips was getting more than 100 strips.
What I found was that Walmart sells their own brand of meter and strips. I did some research and some side by side comparisons with the name brand meter that I had been prescribed. The results I was seeing from both meters were matching up. The difference, Walmart sells 100 strips for $17.88. My insurance does not cover the Walmart strips, but it is still cheaper for me to use the Walmart strips than the prescribed strips.
So if you friend lives near a Walmart this might be something they want to look into.

but..rejects any reasoning about that, so I have shut up.

(36,392 posts)Look at it from the "pragmatic centrist" viewpoint. If it only goes up $100 next time, they'll tell us that "growth of healthcare costs is slowing! Just give it more time".

(16,296 posts)Something HAS GOT to take the place of falling oil prices - why not medicine? Hell, nearly everyone , is on one type or another of meds. The Wall Street bandidos have to make their money somewhere.
Would like to see a chart comparing the falling oil prices vs. the rising med prices.

(34,136 posts)They might be able to save you money on that drug. If nothing else, the site is a good way to do price comparisons between the pharmacies in your area.
Last year they saved me a bundle on one of my drugs - it cost $287 at the pharmacy I normally use but with the GoodRx.com coupon it was $30 at CVS. I bought the drug at CVS with the coupons until my deductible was met. My other $300 drug was purchased with a discount from the drug manufacturer which got it down to $25 a month.
This year I am lucky - my new insurance has better drug which includes all my drugs as Tier 1 or 2. The total each month for all the drugs both my husband and I need is under $60.

(34,136 posts)But my sister has a medication that GoodRx.com does not help her with the cost. Generics are most often reduced through them, so maybe it can help you.
dixiegrrrrl
(60,010 posts)Went online to Good Rx, and found out, it cheaper to get MORE drug.
So, instead of my usual 90 days supply of one of my generic drugs for 10.00, I can get 180 day supply for 14.82.
Prescriptions are tax free in our state.
gonna play around with the figures on that site and see if I can save by having doc write larger amounts.

(34,136 posts)One of my expensive drugs was cheap at one place one month then went way up the next refill. If you register on the site they will send you monthly updates and you can "store" your prescriptions to make it easier to check.

(111,267 posts)which is something that sends me scurrying to the online pill identifier when the pharmacy changes companies. My anti rejection eye drops can cost anywhere from $20 to $80 depending on company. Everything else I take is on the cheap drug list at Wallys and Costco.
There's been a growing scandal lately about the rapidly escalating cost of generic drugs in the US. It seems we're their cash cow since this is one of the few countries on the planet with unregulated drug prices.
That needs to change.
