by John Sepulvado OPB | Feb. 3, 2016 3:09 p.m. | Updated: Feb. 3, 2016 4:24 p.m.
For the past 72 hours, OPB has communicated with militants still occupying the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge by calling militant David Frys personal cellphone ...
Fry .. told OPB that the FBI warned them if he or the others inside gave comments to press groups, they would lose access to incoming calls ...
OPB reached out to the camp at 1:30 p.m. ... but the line was busy and remained so ...
At 2:15 p.m., OPB received a call from a blocked number. The anonymous caller said that all lines of communication to the militants still inside the refuge had been cut at 12:50 p.m. and that further calls and updates would not be possible. The caller declined multiple requests to identify himself ...

(86,634 posts)I'm glad we had a chance to see and hear what kind of miscreants that were involved in this but I would have liked the communications blockade to have come about much sooner, like at least two weeks sooner.
They should be in custody before too long now. It's pretty damn cold this week, heard they were sleeping in their cars for warmth and someone was concerned they might asphyxiate themselves... might have been a bonus there but...
So now we wait for the news of their capture or whatever takes place. I hope they can be tranquilized somehow and captured that way but guess waiting is all that there is left to do on this one.

(86,634 posts)educational for the rest of us to see how unhinged these guys are and that there is dark money backing them... always follow the money.
It sure has sparked a bunch of truncated conversations in the area where I live... which is not far from where at least one of these individuals is from. Conversations have been truncated in lieu of letting someone who agrees with these guys from continuing on a rant for more than ten seconds. Only those who like their ideas are interested in talking about them out in the open. The rest of us have learned to just not "go there" since their admirers are usually packing heat and it's just not wise to let them know how you disagree.
just sayin.

(86,634 posts)He called me up just to talk about what he was reading somewhere. He's pretty well informed so I don't brush off his sources, he said he was reading that the kochheads were heavily involved.
This makes sense because what this whole mess has brought to the surface is the fact that there are GOP state a federal electeds who want to privatize the commons. Now who would want that and why? Well the aforementioned have a lot extractive industries in operation on public lands from mining, petroleum and timber... they want no regulation, they want to dig, drill and chop down everything for their profit while turning this, or what has been in the past, democracy into a feudal system. How to bring that about? Start funding the crazies, with Obama in office they took advantage of the frustrations of racists and other low info people by giving them some $$ and a plan. And who, in the minds of so many, but ranchers to make this all look like wholesome folks fighting government oppression and leaving them with no place to put their cows at taxpayer and environmental expense?
That was the gist of our conversation this afternoon. It's what I have been suspecting all along but not willing to voice my thoughts due to them possibly not being well received.
I'll check for sources.

(19,326 posts)And how the Oregon 'stand-off' is part of dark money's big picture plan to privatize federal resources for
private commercial exploitation; and to do so by any means necessary, apparently including at the point
of a gun in some cases.
A trial balloon?
2naSalit
(86,634 posts)but highly likely. We've been conditioned to focus only upon what's in view and shut down any thought of anything larger.
The Nevada event could also be seen as such. There's an ebb and flow to this, the Sagebrush Rebellion had died down considerably until a) we got a president of color b) financial meltdown and suddenly we have the TP created and funded by none other than our oligarchic pair of psychopathic billionaire brothers...
There are so many vectors from which to attack our system of governing that it does, as we have been told from the very beginning, takes due diligence on the part of the people. Without doing our part and taking responsibility, each of us, we become mere subjects of the realm for the monied few.

I think that's what Bernie's political revolution is all about, because he understands the stakes,
the dire hour at hand, and how badly this could go it we the people don't stand-up with him to
take-on the Billionaire Class, quite literally.

(86,634 posts)This also demonstrates how insidious this whole event has been. These so called patriots are taking a revised version of the Constitution and claiming this to be an action of civil disobedience while doing exactly the opposite, like their religious claims and everything else they get our face about, we see this all the time from those who would destroy the nation... included many in office.
I agree with both candidates on many issues and I will vote for whichever of them is the nominee, but I haven't decided who will get my vote in the primary. In my state, the primary is probably, as usual, the election where my vote will matter. I'm in a pretty reddish state, the state usually goes for the R in the GE. But we have a D governor for what little that matters.

(19,326 posts)something like 44% nationally are Indies. Also Bernie in his last re-election to the US Senate, pulled 25% of his Republican Vermonters into his camp to vote for him. He has a certain 'broad appeal' across the board, that really is quite remarkable. Generally speaking, the more people know about him, the more they like him and trust him with leadership.
2naSalit
(86,634 posts)about as long as he's been in Congress and I like a lot about him, always have.
Here in Montana, we have about six registered parties but for some reason, of late, there's been too much of the TP and not enough Ds. They don't like people of color much here in some areas so Obama was not well received even by some who would otherwise been okay with a Democratic president. It's more R than anything right now but historically it seems to swing back and forth like a pendulum in twenty to fifty year increments.

(19,326 posts)These guys have hung themselves 100 times over by now, at great expense to
the local Burns community and local, state and federal resources.
Just thankful it's finally close to being over, or at least it seems
gratuitous
(82,849 posts)I'm guessing that the final four Wolverines have been cut off from the outside world because law enforcement will move in when the indictments are made public. Welcome to Portland, boys.

(19,326 posts)It's obscene to me how this armed insurrection has been given the green light -- and a public
platform for over a month, at Oregonians' expense -- psychologically for local residents, and
financially burning up public funds at the rate of $100,000 a week -- to promulgate their bullshit
"reclaim public lands for commercial exploitation' tripe.
It didn't need to drag-out this way, but I"m so grateful it's finally winding down and will soon
be over.
