The one with the DV conviction shouldn't be allowed to own a gun, should he? Ghost in the Machine Feb 2016 #3

Fire up a BBQ and cook upwind. The Finnish did this to the Russians in 1939 and drove them crazy.

The laws differ from State to State, and many only lose their rights if there was a restraining order issued. Some States allow you to petition the Court to restore your gun rights after a certain period of time, too.

Does anyone know any more about this?

For example the Fedetal law applies to misdemeanor DV convictions but only if it was a spouse, family, someone they have a child with or person they were cohabiting with- so a girlfriend/boyfriend relationship without cohabitation wouldn't apply under the DV rules on a Federal level even if the state labeled it a DV conviction.

Don't know if this was previously posted here but i will copy it here now. I know, its the sleazy Daily Mail but this has flavor.

EXCLUSIVE: Oregon militiaman in armed standoff with FBI is an 'abusive' radical with a string of drug and alcohol convictions who is 'willing to die for his beliefs'

Sean Anderson is one of four involved in standoff with FBI in Oregon
Used to be a well-paid electrician living according to his Lutheran beliefs
But after first wife left him he turned to drugs, alcohol and extreme views
Step-daughter recalls him as a violent, drunk and 'abusive' parent
Another family member branded him a 'radical' and said he is likely willing to die for his anti-government beliefs
One of the Oregon militiamen still holding out in a tense armed stand off with the FBI and police is a violent ‘bully’ with a string of criminal convictions who is willing to ‘die’ for his cause, Daily Mail Online can reveal.

Heavy-set Sean Anderson has featured in a series of bizarre videos streamed live from the occupiers’ camp near Burns, including one in which he instructed followers to ‘kill’ anyone who gets in their way.

And FBI negotiators are still working around the clock to convince Anderson, his wife Sandy and two others to leave the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge peacefully and prevent further bloodshed.
