BTW Personally, I don't believe for one minute that Ruth (my husband's cousin ... heh, we once called him Cousin Bernie) wasn't aware of what was going on.
He smiled to our face while he was going about business. We broke bread with the Madoffs.
I saw the first hour - fell asleep

It was heartbreaking for me to watch because it brought back fond memories of my older in-laws. They were wonderful people who invested as much as they could to be passed on to their children and grandchildren. Mr I_T_W and I were never rich. We didn't belong to country clubs or go on lavish vacations. We thought we would have enough to meet our modest needs as we grow older. Now, we are looking closely to see where we can cut corners.
I bailed after Bernie offered a check to one of his investors and she tore up that check.
I did complete watching the first part of the mini series. It was correct thus far.

(34,111 posts)until I saw an ad for it the other day. It looked like a good cast but that is all I know. I may record it. Thanks for reminding me that it is on tonight.
Richard Dreyfus? I can't imagine he would do something that was BS about Madoff but then I have been fooled before.

(34,111 posts)I will look around and see if it is BS before I actually watch it. Funny, the other day I was thinking I had not seen Dreyfus in anything for a while. I love the guy, so smart and very liberal so I bet it is good but I do not know how far it will go.

(1,178 posts)I had at least one relative who was taken in and he isn't in the 1%. Madoff also stole money from a lot of charities and non-profit organizations. Many innocent people suffered, some losing their jobs as the charities shut down and some losing the benefits they received from these organizations.
At least he's in prison

(45,319 posts)I always love and for Grodin who got up out of the house for this. I expect very little depth or exposition of the context in which his crimes occurred but I expect Richard will do a subtle gnawing of the scenery which he does so well.

(34,111 posts)and now I have to go up and clean the barn so.....if you have any suggestions as to if it is good or very light weight coverage of what happened I would appreciate it. If it is good I will likely stay up late and watch it.
Aww never mind, that cast? I will watch it anyway just to watch them.

(5,810 posts)Richard Dryfuss was excellent playing Bernie. So slick and yet just despicable as he lied to one person after another, including his own family. Once the scheme began unraveling and he knew the axe could fall at any time, he was particularly good as the collapse was imminent. Fellow actors were also very good, including Blythe Danner who portrays his wife, Ruth.
There is family information, betrayal, a mistress, illness, fancy doings in Palm Beach and of course, the foundation on which his empire was built.....greed.
I know how this story ends but you can bet I will be watching tomorrow night at 8 eastern 7 central on ABC.
