Jimmy Carter: US campaign funding is 'legal bribery'

Former US president Jimmy Carter says the way politics is now funded in the US amounts to "legal bribery".

Speaking to John Humphrys, who first interviewed Carter when he was running for the Democratic nomination in 1976, he said almost all candidates now relied on "massive infusions of money".

We know one candidate who isn't taking in bribes unless my four contributions to his campaign for 20 bucks a pop qualifies.

An essential 3 hours of radio in the morning. Famed for giving politicians "a hard time" (ie not going with the party line and asking 'easy' questions).

Congress is bought and paid for by special interests, and the Senators and Representatives have no interest in cutting their own lavish spending habits.

And our next likely president just wades in piles of cash from the banks and other big interests. She will not fly in steerage class.
