most of the people there didn't like it when they came and bought out everyone's ability to own land of their own so if anyone wants a really big shooting war, impose this shit on the area.

since they're tax-exempt, and LDS members tithe 10% of their income to the church, it has limitless funds.

they're like Scientology - they get their tentacles into everything.

Deseret is becoming a fait accompli by other means.

Glad for this information, though. Time to get my guard up--by which I don't mean my weapons, rather more like keeping my wits about me. Gee, the fun never stops!

As a former member, I can tell you that the legend of Deseret still looms large (unofficially) in "the church" and is part of the grass roots indoctrination of every kid prior to baptism. Remember too that Deseret has always been seen of as a separate nation with its own language, currency, government and military.

Other sagebrushers are likely not to know what this all means to the true Maroni Militia believers.

Lake Malheur return of Deseret while the Paiute wince at "citizen" militia's

What does the Malheur Refuge have in common with Mormons and Paiutes? The location falls within the boundaries of Deseret and the land of the Paiute.

“When the Mormons reached Utah in 1847, Smith’s successor Brigham Young founded the breakaway state of Deseret”
https://www.bostonglobe.com/opinion/2016/01/05/oregon-standoff-has-roots-mormon-fanaticism/QLgIkrNZipFjtbn4AyUZFJ/story.html

Deseret extended north just above Lake Malheur.
State of Deseret

“The Territory of Deseret comprised roughly all the lands between the Sierra Nevada and the Rockies, and between the border with Mexico northward to include parts of the Oregon Territory, as well as the coast of California south of the Santa Monica Mountains (including the existing settlements of Los Angeles and San Diego). It included the entire watershed of the Colorado River (excluding the lands south of the border with Mexico), as well as the entire area of the Great Basin.”
