Hong Kong likely to deport ‘anti-Semitic’ French comedian
CONTROVERSIAL French comedian Dieudonne MBala MBala will likely be deported from Hong Kong, his production company said. He had flown there earlier to perform in the city, but was detained by authorities at the airport.
Dieudonne has been hounded by allegations of anti-Semitism for years. He is notorious for his trademark quenelle hand gesture, which resembles an inverted Nazi salute. He maintains it is only an act of anti-establishment protest.
He has seen the insides of many courtrooms over his allegedly racist and anti-Semitic comments. Only last November, a Belgium court gave him a two-month prison sentence for remarks he made at a show. Earlier that year, in March, a French court slapped him with a two-month suspended sentence and a hefty fine after he suggested sympathy with one of the perpetrators of the January 2015 terror attacks in Paris.
According to AFP, the Hong Kong immigration department refused to comment specifically on Dieudonnes case, but remarked that it was committed to upholding effective immigration control by denying the entry of undesirables.
