Marvel CEO donates $1M to #Trump4Vets (Yes, THAT Marvel)

Last night, as you may have heard, Donald Trump showed how he was the toughest guy on the planet, who can stand up to Putin and Kim Jong Il, by running away from Megyn Kelly, the world’s most terrifying person. Instead of being grilled by Fox personnel on the GOP debate, Trump launched his own, by all accounts, “boring,” fundraiser for the troops and he announced several donations, including $1 million from Marvel CEO Isaac Perlmutter.

Trump praised Perlmutter as “An unbelievable Man, he did such a great job — one of the great great men of our country in terms of business and talent.” (You can see the mention at the 1 minute mark in the above video.

A rep for Perlmutter said “The Perlmutters are thrilled to support their friend Donald Trump in his efforts to help veterans.”

4. The donations go to trump's personal Foundation, not any Vet Charity
Sun Jan 31, 2016, 02:05 PM
Jan 2016
Rather than going directly to veterans groups, 100% of online donations on Trump's pro-veterans site will go directly to Trump's personal foundation.

The website, which is nothing more than a single page with stock photos and a credit card donation form, claims that “100% of your donations will go directly to Veterans needs.”

There’s only one problem: 100% of the money raised on the site goes directly to Donald Trump’s personal non-profit foundation, according to a disclosure listed at the bottom of the page.

“The Donald J Trump Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization,” the disclosure reads. “An email confirmation with a summary of your donation will be sent to the email address provided above.”

Trump isn't an idiot. He has all the money he'll ever need, so I highly doubt he would just keep the money. Foundations like this are subject to accountability of funds in order to keep their tax exempt status, so it will be known if the money is allocated as claimed it will be. For all the things involving trump to get riled about, this doesn't even peg my radar.

Trump’s personal non-profit foundation, the Donald J. Trump Foundation, does not have a history of donating much money to veterans or to veterans’ causes. According to a recent analysis of the organization’s spending history by the Weekly Standard, Trump’s non-profit donated more money to the Clinton Foundation than it did to veterans causes.

Between 2009 and 2013, Trump’s non-profit donated between $100,001 and $250,000 to the Clinton Foundation. Over the same period of time, Trump’s group gave only $57,000 to veterans groups. A 2015 analysis by Forbes noted that barely 1 percent of the Donald J. Trump Foundation’s $5.5 million worth of donations between 2009 and 2013 went to organizations that support military veterans:

But you are right. There is much more to be worried about with Trump than how much his foundation gives to vets.

At a campaign event today Trump gave a $100,000 check to a group that provides service dogs to disabled vets. It was reported that the group, Partners for Patriots, is the second to receive a donation. I don't know what the first is but it's probably identified in other news reports.

I don't doubt that all of the money raised will be given to vet charities by Trump's foundation and the media will be watching that. The foundation has already designated 22 vet charities that will receive funds: https://assets.donaldjtrump.com/MILITARY_CHARITIES_SHEET_FOR_MR._TRUMP.pdf

As for orgs designated to receive funds, I pointed out that two have already gotten checks. I saw the Partners for Patriots check presentation in a brief live clip on cable news.

Do you really think Trump is stupid enough to not make sure the funds go where they're supposed to? With the media spotlight on him and the press following up on this?

I know his newfound "love" for vets is a departure from his past record...

But he's shamelessly exploiting vets in doing this solely for the benefit of his campaign. He had a poor record of supporting vets until he became a candidate and suddenly he loooooves us. Gimme a fucking break!

On Thursday, Republican front-runner Donald Trump delivered a speech before the Republican Jewish Coalition in which he essentially praised members of the organization for being a bunch of Shylocks.

“Stupidly, you want to give me money,” he began. But he added that “you’re not going to support me because I don’t want your money,” suggesting that Jews are unwilling to back people whose purse-strings they can’t control, a classic anti-Semitic trope.

In his humble way, he spoke of how much the Jews love him, especially in Israel. “They look at my wall, and it’s loaded up” with awards from Jewish groups, he boasted, before adding that “the Christians are catching up, though, they’re catching up.”...

His most powerful misstep, however, occurred when he waffled on the question of whether Jerusalem should remain undivided and the capital of Israel. “I don’t know if Israel has the commitment to make it,” he said. Time’s Zeke Miller said that at that point, “you could hear a pin drop.”
