And, no, I wouldn't vote for him in a zillion years, but I have to give him props for the sheer marketing. This is a guy who arguably has more resources than any other candidate (or maybe all put together) and yet has spent probably nothing - leveraging publicity like no one can.
Just make ultimately sure - no way would I want him to run this country. But, damn, this guy can market like anything and I have to credit him for that.
Or, maybe, in 12 or so hours, I might pull this post. Hard to say.

(7,107 posts)I especially enjoyed him calling Cruz a Canadian Anchor Baby.
I don't consider him a threat to Hillary/Sanders in the General Election.

(50,986 posts)no question.
Maybe he's not just the bull in the china shop. He's a stampeded of bulls, or a guy in a giant bulldozer advancing on the building in which the china shop is housed.
Any version of this we pick, it's not gonna be good for the china shop.

(11,093 posts)and there have been election shenanigans in the country before - but I pray we don't get that close.
That said, he's still a hell of a marketer. A dumb-ass president, maybe, but still a hell of a markerter.

(6,262 posts)But not any more. He has insulted every group in the most disgusting terms, and now flagrantly dissed Faux, his former cheerleader. Really, what else is there to deliberately scorch?
Now he's having decorators measuring for gold lamė drapes in the Oval.

(62,271 posts)Specifically, I would add, it's the talking heads. They're building this epic narrative about Trump.
Mind you I'm not disagreeing, he's definitely pulling punches and really blowing people away, but it's all fake, it's all manipulated, it's all nonsense.
When Trump began his campaign he would do interviews in the hotel lobby of where he lived. Free coverage. 100% free coverage. And it would at least get a blurb or two on the cable networks, and if he said something remotely controversial, it made the national news.
But I can't really blame the media when they are getting massive ad buys whenever they host Trump.

(10,362 posts)Cruz has deeply ingrained religious and neoconservative beliefs. I think he would press the red button and start a nuclear confrontation without hesitation. Didn't he say he'd bomb Iran merely for detaining our sailors?
Trump is a bullshitter. He even admitted that he says this stuff just to get the crowd riled up. God only knows what his actual policies would be. The media has been so preoccupied with his stunts that they forgot to take him to task for having no policy positions. When was the last time they asked him a question about policy and not Megyn Kelly, Fox, Ailes, Muslims, walls, etc? He likes this circus because then he never has to account for his previous statements, nor take any current positions on... almost anything.
This is the weirdest election I've ever seen.

is an example of
Trump's manipulation
of the conversation:
First, he sets you up;
then, he misdirects you;
finally, he leaves you with a lie
that you think might be true.

(1,428 posts)1. Tagging Bush right out the gate with "low energy". Jeb! never recovered.
2. Calls out Megyn Kelly as a lightweight.
3. Calls out Fox News as biased.
4. Punks Roger Ailes repeatedly by threatening and actually not showing up on his channel.
5. Goads Ailes into releasing ill advised snarky press releases revealing what a sham of a news organization Fox is.
6. Punks Ted Cruz with birther nonsense.
7. Calls out Bush for being in charge on 9/11.
8. Has sent Reince Pribus and all establishment GOP into full panic.
Donald Trump is the best thing that could happen for Democrats. He's a one man wrecking crew destroying GOP establishment control of the party and their most effective propaganda tool, Fox News.

Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, Muslims, women, gays, and young people are not going to vote Trump. Voting against your best interests en masse is pretty much an old, angry, White guy thing.

(11,093 posts)He's the embodiment of any publicity is better than none at all. He's got more money than his oppoents put together, and yet he's spent nearly nothing. It's hard to refute that.
That said, take me back to when I lived in Burlington and Bernie was mayor. Best time of my life.

(32,705 posts)Shortly after Trump announced this summer, I went to South America and actually faced questions about what "we" were thinking over here in the US. I tried to explain that it was nothing and only a small minority of people supported him. Now this clown might actually become president. So extremely and utterly embarrassing!

(23,730 posts)dirty tricks don't work on him, they in fact give him a bump; he mocks the fundies and Cruz starts to sag; he loses his cool and screams and gets flustered, and his voters relate to that; he says his followers are brainless sheep who'd do anything he wants and gets even more of them
