Look who is behind the John Edwards Trial.

The officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal matters, said that the Obama administration had inherited the investigation launched by former U.S. attorney George Holding of North Carolina’s Eastern District, who had been appointed by President George W. Bush.

One Justice official said that the case was considered politically sensitive and “it would be seen as a bad thing if we protected John Edwards and interfered in the North Carolina investigation by a Republican U.S. attorney.”

George E. B. Holding (born April 17, 1968) served as the United States Attorney for North Carolina’s Eastern District from 2006 to 2011. He is now a Republican candidate for Congress in North Carolina's 13th congressional district.

Jonathan Alter is the one who talked about the back story to the prosecution. Apparently there's more, having to do with previous animus N.C. GOP held for JE.

yesterday did a whole segment on the travesty the trial was. He remarked that the jury had the common sense that the judge and prosecutors didn't.

NC is still a far cry from Alabama, where crooked juries are easy to find and empanel.

This jury said the prosecution failed to produce enough evidence of illegality, although it did a nice job of proving Edwards a hypocrite and a rat as a husband.
