Deceased Militant LaVoy Finicum: Rancher, Patriarch, Bundy Believer

Finicum was reportedly killed during an officer involved shooting with Oregon State Police while traveling with Ammon and Ryan Bundy to meet with ranchers and others in Grant County. According to police, the shooting took place around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday along Highway 395.

At the occupied Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, Finicum stood out as one of the few ranchers in a crowd of army vets and anti-government activists.

...

Finicum spoke about the possibility of a war between the people of the United States and its government, and wrote an apocalyptic novel, available on Amazon, titled “Only By Blood and Suffering.” He urged reporters to consider setting aside enough food and water to last six months.

Before 2014, Finnicum had never met Cliven Bundy face-to-face, though his cattle grazed on thousands of acres in Mojave County, Arizona, not far from the Bundy’s ranch. He came to visit the Bundys the day before the standoff started.

“I said Cliven, don’t let them take your cows,” Finicum recalled in an interview with OPB. “He says saddle up your horse and be here early in the morning. I was the first cowboy to show up in the dark.”

In fall 2015, Finicum followed in Bundy’s footsteps and chose to stop complying with his lease contract with the Bureau of Land Management, in spite of a long positive relationship with the agency.

Finicum, who always wore a cowboy hat and was typically armed, gained further notoriety for a national television interview he did while huddled under a blue tarp in the cold of night. He was also one of the main liaisons for local and national reporters stationed in the nearby town of Burns.

“They shot him in cold blood,” said Cliven Bundy, Ammon’s father.

Carol Bundy said Finicum was one of the most passionate protesters she met at her ranch in 2014. “He was fighting so his children and grandchildren could live in a free country and not be afraid of their own government,” she said.

Interesting how that thief and liar Cliven Bundy knows how they shot him when he wasn't there

People reflexively tend to treat these people like they have actual principles, I assume because they make word sounds about "the constitution." But if you look at their actual behavior, they're a bunch of thieves, deadbeats and scofflaws, who then turned themselves into armed thugs when the BLM started to push back on their scofflaw behavior.

Hamilton helped Washington put down the anti-tax bluster of the Whisky Rebellion. Mostly the protesters scattered. These Bundyites will do the same eventually. The FBI showed infinite patience, but that only inspired them to ramp up their prolonged temper tantrum.

that he was the foster father of 11 children. They have been taken out of his home since this standoff started. Last week he complained that he no longer had the $115k income from the state as a result. His farm was not profitable and the teen aged boys he fostered did the work around the place.

A "nice" fella

I'm going to guess that Tarpman went on his own terms and not that he suddenly tried to give up.

you can bet they have this on film.

The way the cops handled this makes me proud of them to a certain extent. Where I live we have pretty good cops for the most part. I've not had any problems with them, of course every time I've had contact with cops they had me dead to facts and my instinct is to fess up right off. Its easier that way. No one gets hurt and no one gets all pissed off and no one comes away with a grudge. Its worked out good for me over the years. Course I'm not a bad guy by any stretch of anyones imagination and I'm not going to change in that regard.

He got himself killed, of course. The police & FBI showed extraordinary patience... even by the standards usually applied to white people who brandish weapons and vandalize public property. But he didn't need to die. Right wing politicians and media personalities trying to bolster their ratings also got him killed.

Fuck them.

He made multiple threats of violence, he exploited foster kids for his income.

He was a dirty rotten piece of shit.

And his life ended when he charged a bunch of armed law enforcement.

The world's a better place without him in it.
