The more likely it becomes that Trump is headed toward the nomination, the more the party will be forced to circle the wagons for him.

What choice does the party have? Can they wait until he wins the nomination to try to co-opt him? No, they have to start as soon as possible. Once he is leading in the primaries, the party needs to get someone reliable on Trump’s team . . .

He’s run his campaign by himself with his money, but he hasn't built up a team dedicated to winning a general election, much less a team to govern a nation.

And the party needs to be part of the Trump team. As nominee, he will have to show that he can pick credible people. Not gonna happen. . .

Of course, the Republican party will soon realize that they have to get someone who can try to manage him, but no reputable republican will want to put his reputation on the line by being on Trump's fantasy team.

Any party choice to work with Trump will have to beat out the Republican grifters that will be vying to ooze their way into his cabinet.

The question is what leverage does the party have, at this point, to get one of their own on Trump’s team?

I've read time and again at DU that 'Indies are more likely to cross over for Sanders if Trump doesn't win".

One - I think Trump has this in the bag.

Two - his strength is that he would place average Joes and Janes in his Cabinet.

The average Trump supporter hates America as it is, it was etc etc.

My perception is they want to tear it down completely and start over from 1865.

These people will not be voting for a Democratic candidate who has a strong belief in all for one and one for all (Sanders). They are polar opposites to Sanders supporters who DO believe in America. Both the concept and the entity.

Trump can't go mainstream or staus quo - he loses when he loses his pugnacious approach to the Republican Party leadership

The first debate was an ambush. It was a sham. They treated him pretty badly though I think the question about his comment about women was fair. And the press release today was ridiculous coming from a "news" company.
