I miss Ted Kennedy.

(51,076 posts)but don't forget that largely due to his campaign to unseat Carter in '80 we wound up with Reagan.
Ted went after Carter with both barrels a blazing and pretty much destroyed President Carter. Ted at the time was a lot like Hill in that he felt it was his turn.
I know I'll get trounced for this but I remember the campaign well.
Between the 'CONs treating Carter as they have every Democratic President since Johnson and Ted Kennedy, Carter didn't have a chance in being reelected.
Chappaquiddick pretty much guaranteed that Ted didn't have a snowballs chance in hell of ascending to the oval office. No matter he still gave it his all and destroyed President Carter in the process.

(23,156 posts)It could be repeated in its entirety today and still be totally relevant. There is nothing in it, other than the references to Carter and to the year (1980), that has changed in over 35 years.
