(3,457 posts)any other felonious assault. This shows how much we need to address the problem of mental illness as well.
Alaska has the nation's highest rate of men murdering women, more than double the U.S. average, according to a study released Monday by Violence Policy Center.
The study said that 2.57 of every 100,000 women in the Last Frontier were murdered by men in 2012 -- more than double the national average of 1.16. That represents nine women murdered in Alaska under circumstances involving only one female victim and one male murderer.
"One is too many," Gov. Sean Parnell said in response to the numbers.
The study used data collected from the FBI's Supplementary Homicide Report. According to the data, the average age of women killed in Alaska in 2012 was 41. Four were shot -- none with a handgun, according to the study -- three were killed with knives "or other cutting instruments," and one was killed using blunt force. One was not accounted for in the study.

(9,350 posts)I am not trying to say you are not being compassionate toward Tripp Palin, but I think we need to proceed with compassion for Tripp Palin in that he may be dealing with PTSD. I do believe he spent time in Iraq, or Afghanistan. I am certain he is an Army veteran. This seems like at PTSD incident. He really should be given his privacy in dealing with this issue.

(9,350 posts)I read a report that said he threatened to kill himself with an AR-15. I realize he was drunk at the time, but it seems that a number of men and women who have been deployed overseas have returned with problems. Track Palin is an Army veteran, who spent a year in Iraq.

(14,134 posts)So, according to you, if MY Iraq War Veteran husband (who does have PTSD) hits me, HE deserves compassion? No, he would deserve jail time.
Besides, you can't just say it's PTSD, it has to be diagnosed. Sarah is not a doctor.

(15,480 posts)As per 4 paragraph limit, does not include references that he got drunk at "his sister's house" before driving (drunk) to his parents' house Also the police report does not indicate anyone else was present in Sarah & Todd's house when the police showed up.
The incident happened in Wasilla, Alaska, and according to police records, Track Palin, 26, was charged with three misdemeanors including assault in the fourth degree, interfering when the girlfriend tried to report him for domestic violence and possession of weapons in the fourth degree while he was intoxicated.
Court records show that police responded to two 911 calls that came in around 10 p.m. on January 18 at Sarah and Todd Palin's residence. The first call that came through was from the victim. She called the police to report that Track had punched her in the face and he was armed with a gun. The second caller was Track Palin who apparently tried to stop the police from coming as he reported that the woman who had just called them was drunk.
When the police arrived, they found Mr. Palin standing outside talking on the phone. They noticed that he had an injury to his right eye, his eyes were bloodshot, and he smelled of alcohol. Police describe Mr. Palin as uncooperative, belligerent, and evasive. They placed Track under arrest because his behavior continued to become more hostile and they had yet to find the victim.
When police searched the residence, they discovered the victim hiding under the bed crying. She told police that Track hit her with closed fists near her eye and then he held a rifle to his head and threatened to kill himself. During their investigation, they discovered that when Track allegedly punched his girlfriend in the face, he left the area around her left eye bruised and swelled. The girlfriend also told police that Track kicked her in the right knee and it was hurting.
