"It was only nine months ago that Flint officials turned off the flow of already-treated Lake Huron water from the city of Detroit and started treating their own raw water from the Flint River instead, calculating that the switch could save roughly $5 million in less than two years." spring 2014?

(14,449 posts)I heard the story a few days ago and for some reason heard 2004 instead of 2014. Thanks for the clarification. It also could be an unconscious dig at bush. Lol.

(33,019 posts)the female radio host started out confidently asserting that, then the guest corrected the date.
I thought the host was implying the issue started before Sinnerman Snyder took over

Here's what Congressman Kildee is posted:
Todays statement by Governor Rick Snyder that he is treating Genesee Countys outbreak of Legionnaires disease 'with the same urgency and transparency as the lead response in the city of Flint is outrageous. The states response to the Flint water crisis continues to be inadequate and the people of Flint deserve a response that meets the severity of the situation.
Flint cannot wait any longer for the Governor to take action. I renew my call for immediate help from the federal government to make sure the people of Flint get the resources they need whether the state takes action or not.

(26,289 posts)He leaned right in, said something and then I heard POTUS say something like "This is about the water situation?"
Congressman Kildee is a fierce representative, as is my state senator, Jim Ananich. They have been fighting this battle for a long time, now - far longer than most people realize. Unfortunately, until Rachel Maddow grabbed ahold of the story, it just didn't have much in the way of a national spotlight because Snyder and his minions kept poo-pooing all of the people's concerns.
The fight is now three fold - get the lead out of the water, get reimbursed for the water bills that were paid for undrinkable water, and get the water treated to kill the bacteria that's triggering the Legionnaire's outbreak. Hopefully having the entire nation now aware of what's happened, Snyder and the rest will now be held to account.
