Can Melania Trump, who holds a Slovenian Passport Be First Lady?

Last edited Wed Jan 27, 2016, 10:26 PM - Edit history (1)

I know they is much talk and discussion about Cruz and his status, but does Trump have a problem too. If elected, Melania Trump would be First Lady and by virtue of the position, she would have access to an incredible amount of sensitive data. She would also be the wife (not to get crude here) of the person with the nuclear codes. Do we really know how she went from a daughter of a car repairman to top NYC model?

defining who is eligible to be the spouse of a President, then yes, she can be a First Lady. If she's married to the man who is the President, that is.

However, the op is full of nonsense, the First Lady does not have access to classified documents and has no clearance.
(I would assume that a President could request it if for some reason the FL needed it.

Bess Truman had access to the liquor cabinet and the card tables and she used to have her friends over, alot. "First Lady" is not a job. It's a title, and the holder can do as much or as little as they'd like. She is a naturalized citizen. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melania_Trump

She's not the issue (though her naked model days would be fodder for the fun-pokers). The issue is her husband.

Cruz, or his campaign, didn't say any of that - the blog writer made it up (they are a 'centrist' blogger, and not someone that Cruz's campaign would suddenly reveal their thoughts to).

So we have to ask what the blogger (who I guess is the same person as the DUer) meant with the red-baiting stuff about 'communist parents', or the stuff about "she sleeps with him", or the incorrect claim that she'd get to see classified stuff. Does the author actually think that themselves (in which case it's "creepy and offensive&quot , or are they saying that Cruz and his campaign are the kind of creepy and offensive people that would think that way?

LOL!

Of all other candidates, Cruz!

The security concerns are huge and very real. At no other time in American history has a person, who’s parents were communists in good standing, would be this close to the presidency and all the incredibly sensitive data that goes with the position. In fact, its conceivable that Trump could provide her with the nuclear codes
.

She's not running for president. Furthermore, only certain elected positions require that the individual holding that office be born in the U.S. A politician born in another country can run for mayor, governor and serve in the House and Senate. For example, Jennifer Granholm (former governor of MI), was born in Canada.

As for being a top model - looks and luck. The constitution says nothing about who the president is married to.
