What's with the critcism towards Nikki Haley's appearance?

Everyone has different faces, different teeth, and that effects how our faces look when we talk. Is the best we can do is criticize a woman for her (totally normal) appearance?

and this is not just someone but dozens of people on this site and god knows how many on social media. Lots of people have the similar apple cheeks, thin mouth and toothy smile that lend a certain tightness to the mouth when speaking. The actresses Parker Posey and Katharine Hepburn have this look. Let's focus on her message, not her face.

The thing is, that bright smile is a focal point, and I agree with you, she doesn't move her mouth and it is off-putting for some reason.

It's like she is smiling while talking through gritted teeth.

This particular quirk is new. IMO she got some bad advice.
She comes across as reasonable and sensible. She is really a snake with very RW views. That's why she is scary.

for having that "hot and heavy fling" with a political operative and later blogger!

What is in the water in SC? There's got to be some kind of Love Potion in the gubernatorial tap water, or something!

But yeah...for people who don't know her wingnut views, to say nothing of her sketchy personal history, she comes across as a charming centrist. She hit the lottery when she decided to not die on Confederate Flag Hill. That decision will probably make her a senator one day. IF she stops doing that grimace-grin!!!!

I believe him, despite his rudeness in "kissing and telling." She insisted she barely knew him, but she had hundreds of Very Late Night, documented phone conversations with him? Hmmm.....!!!!!

Folks released nearly 1,000 pages of phone records to local reporters on Thursday, without comment.

On its own, the massive volume of calls doesn’t prove that an affair took place – particularly seeing as Folks worked with Haley for a brief time during some of the high frequency calling periods. In fact, as Haley campaign manager Tim Pearson told The (Columbia, S.C.) State newspaper Thursday, “of course they spoke on the phone.”

But what’s raising eyebrows across the state isn’t necessarily the number of phone calls (although more than 700 calls seems like an awfully high number given Haley’s recent claim that she “barely knew” Folks), it is the time – and the length – of dozens of late night calls.

Here, for example are several of the late night calls uncovered from Folks’ phone records:

We're so used to the GOP responses to the SOTU addresses being horrible that it's a kneejerk response to find a reason to say she sucked, but this time it went pretty well. Good for her and for all the 27 people who watched it. It doesn't really matter.

A mangled Latin subset of the ad hominem argument; to attack the person (man) ad mulierem (mulier - woman in Latin) is very popular but none the less false.I am sure that we are smart enough to rationally find fault with Republican points without constantly referring to the appearance of women. We do it to our own as well. Here's a list of the worst offenders:
Sec. Clinton's clothes, hair.
Ann Coulter's body, black dress and Adam's apple, sexuality.
Ms. Fiorina's face.
and now Gov. Haley's teeth.

The last reminds me of Sherman Alexie's film Smoke Signals. The 2 main characters sing a pow-wow parody song while riding a bus, John Wayne's Teeth.

John Wayne's teeth ya ho, ya ho.
John Wayne's teeth ya ho, ya ho.
Are they fake or are they real
Are they wooden or maybe steel
John Wayne's teeth.

Hollywood hollywood
How does it feel,
Ya ho, ya ho, how does it feel
How does it feel.

Republican fascism ho, ya ho.
John Wayne's teeth, ya ho, ya ho.

Democrat fascism, ho ya ho.

John Wayne's teeth ya ho, ya ho.
John Wayne's teeth ya ho, ya ho.
Are they fake or are they real
Are they wooden or maybe steel
John Wayne's teeth.

John Wayne's teeth ya ho ya ho
John Wayne's teeth
John Wayne's teeth

Whoops--I've mixed up my targets of appearance-shaming, because there are so damn many of them.

You're 100% correct. Mocking her for appearance is sexist and juvenile, especially when it's so much more effective to mock her for her statements.
